We are seeking a detail-oriented Junior Cost Accountant to join a growing finance team supporting North American operations. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career accounting professional to build hands-on experience in manufacturing cost accounting, inventory analysis, and financial reporting within a collaborative environment.
The Junior Cost Accountant will support the cost accounting function by maintaining accurate product cost data, assisting with inventory analysis, and contributing to month-end and reporting processes. This role works closely with operations, supply chain, and finance to ensure reliable cost information and identify opportunities for improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Cost Accounting Support
- Assist in maintaining and reviewing cost accounting records, including bills of materials (BOMs), work order variances, and purchase price variances (PPVs)
- Support analysis of manufacturing costs, including direct labor, materials, and overhead, to help identify trends and discrepancies
- Participate in regular inventory reconciliations and valuation analysis to ensure accurate inventory records and financial reporting
- Help monitor and track cost variances and support investigations into root causes
- Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual cost reports for management review
- Contribute to month-end commentary on gross margin and production variances
- Collaborate with FP& A and operations teams to provide data for budgeting and forecasting
- Support compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and company policies related to cost and inventory
General Accounting Support
Assist with monthly balance sheet account reconciliationsSupport ERP system data integrity through ad-hoc reporting and analysisQualifications
Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field1–3 years of accounting experience (manufacturing, inventory, or cost accounting exposure is an asset)Foundational understanding of cost accounting and inventory principlesComfortable working with data in Excel (pivot tables, lookups, basic analysis)Experience with an ERP system is an asset (JDE experience is a plus)Strong attention to detail and willingness to learnAnalytical mindset with good problem-solving skillsStrong communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teamsGreat Fit for Someone Who…
