About the General Internal Medicine and Cardiology unit

A -bed General Internal Medicine and Cardiology unit, catering to patients with a spectrum of conditions, from straightforward pneumonia diagnoses to intricate acute and chronic illnesses.

General internal medicine and cardiology offers staff nurses opportunities to acquire specialized knowledge in the areas of respiratory medicine, cardiology, oncology and palliative care, pain management, geriatrics, wound and skin care.

In this role you will :

  • Routinely apply the nursing process into daily practice to build confidence in practice and achieving positive patient outcomes
  • Provide cardiac monitoring for patients being transported to and from cardiac procedures including Angio-Caths, cardiac CTs and MRIs
  • Provide post-cardiac procedure care for patients including those with a TR band
  • Complete ECGs for patients with cardiac symptoms
  • Manage simple and complex wounds
  • Insert and / or manage various tubes / lines i.e. NGT, GT, Foley catheters, chest tubes, PICCs, PIV, SL, NTs, stomas, Trachs, Nasal cannula, Hi Flow and other oxygen, etc.
  • Collect blood, urine, sputum and other specimens for lab testing

Job Requirements

Mandatory

  • Current certificate of registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Graduate of a CNO-approved bachelor’s degree in nursing program, or equivalent combined education and experience
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification

Preferred

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN). Applicants in their final year or near completion will be considered
  • Speciality certificate in Coronary Care i.e. ECG interpretation
  • Previous clinical experience working with patients with acute and chronic illnesses
