Performing quantity, material, and labor takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and related documents.
Reviewing quantity survey assignment with lead estimator or chief estimator.
Applying material unit prices or adding material allowances to the estimate.
Assisting with bid document control (e.g., includes addenda in set of working drawings, includes RFIs, distributes information to estimating team; archives information / recaps and files on local server).
Documenting all information relating to the estimate and archives and organizes such information to transfer to the project team upon successful award.
On a fixed-price job, ensuring that bid validity, escalation, and extra work terms meet project requirements for small scopes.
Performing bid-day assignments as per lead estimator.
Soliciting pricing from trade contractors and suppliers under supervision of lead estimator.
Attending preliminary site visits with more senior staff for mentoring.
Developing and maintaining strong customer focused relationships with all stakeholders.
Other duties as required.
Qualifications
A postsecondary diploma or degree in related discipline or trade experience or equivalent.
Some co-op or relevant experience in a construction environment preferred.
Basic knowledge of construction industry; on-site experience or exposure to construction (hands-on or trade experience) preferred.
Ability to work in a busy team environment.
Resourceful and self-motivated with strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Outstanding relationship management with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with key partners and decision makers, leading to negotiated or repeat work.
Attention to detail and the ability creatively solve problems.
Strong computer skills; especially well versed with the Microsoft Office suite of applications.
