The Interdepartmental Centre for Critical Care at University Health Network (UHN) and Sinai Health, and the Interdepartmental Division of Critical Care Medicine, University of Toronto are seeking applications for a full-time active staff appointment as an Academic Intensivist.
We are accepting applications under the following position descriptions : Clinician-Teacher or Clinician-Educator to be based at the Toronto General Medical-Surgical ICU.
The successful candidate must be eligible for an academic appointment at the rank of Assistant / Associate / Full Professor in the Interdepartmental Division of Critical Care Medicine, in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto.
The anticipated start date will be Apr 1, 2025, or one which is mutually agreed upon.
The successful candidate will lead the inter-professional critical care team during clinical weeks on call in the role of attending physician in the Medical-Surgical-ICU at Toronto General Hospital.
In addition, the candidate will develop an academic body of work aligned with their job description and the UHN Critical Care Program.
The successful candidate must also have strong interpersonal and communication skills and thrive within a collaborative and interdisciplinary program involving multiple specialties (medicine, surgery, radiology, etc.).
The successful applicant must hold MD and FRCPC qualifications, or equivalent with training in Critical Care Medicine and have or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).
Formal graduate training in education / teaching or a related field is a requirement. Training and certification in transthoracic critical care echocardiography is also required;
transesophageal echocardiography training / certification is an asset. Experience or training in extracorporeal life support systems and care of the patient undergoing solid organ transplant is also an asset.
Candidate excellence will be assessed, as relevant to their proposed position description, by graduate training, clinical experience, awards, teaching evaluations, and program development or leadership.
The Toronto General Hospital MSICU is a quaternary referral centre well-known locally and internationally for its expertise in caring for patients undergoing solid organ transplant, those with acute respiratory failure, and those requiring extracorporeal life support.
The unit also provides care for many medical patients and postoperative care for complex abdominal and thoracic surgery patients.
Academic rank, salary, and contractual arrangements will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
For the successful candidate remuneration will be negotiated and will be highly competitive with the usual income range for an academic intensivist in the province of Ontario.
Protected time for academic time will be negotiated in line with qualifications and merit.
