Title: Cyber Security Specialist

Location: St. John’s, NL

Venor is thrilled to partner with our client, Keyin College to lead the recruitment of a Cyber Security Specialist. We are seeking a proactive and experienced Cybersecurity Specialist to oversee the security posture of our hybrid infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on cloud security within Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 Enterprise environments. This position plays a critical role in safeguarding systems, data, and user identities through proactive threat detection, compliance enforcement, and secure configuration management.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Cybersecurity Operations

• Monitor the organization’s infrastructure for security threats using SIEM, endpoint protection, and log analysis tools.
• Lead incident response efforts, root cause analysis, and recovery plans for cybersecurity events.
• Manage endpoint protection platforms, firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and security gateways.

Microsoft Azure & Microsoft 365 Security

• Design and implement security controls in Microsoft Azure, including: Azure Security Center and Defender for Cloud Azure Network Security Groups (NSGs), Application Gateways, and firewalls Azure Policy, Key Vault, and Role-Based Access Control (RBAC)
• Secure Microsoft 365 Enterprise services by configuring: Conditional access policies and multifactor authentication (MFA) Data Loss Prevention (DLP), Microsoft Defender for Office 365 Microsoft Purview compliance features, including retention and sensitivity labels Mobile device and application management

Governance, Risk & Compliance

• Conduct regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing.
• Document and communicate risks to leadership, and track mitigation efforts.
• Oversee user awareness training and phishing simulations to strengthen security culture.

Collaboration & Strategic Input

• Collaborate with network, systems, and application teams to embed security into architecture and operations.
• Evaluate and recommend new tools or platforms to enhance cybersecurity capabilities.
• Provide security guidance during digital transformation or migration initiatives.

What You’ll Bring:

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in cybersecurity
• Hands-on experience managing cloud security in Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 environments.

Certifications (Preferred)

• Microsoft Certified: Cybersecurity Architect Expert
• Microsoft Certified: Security Operations Analyst Associate
• Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
• Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) or CISM

Technical Skillsets

• Deep understanding of Azure-native security features and Zero Trust frameworks.
• Experience with Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Conditional Access, and Privileged Identity Management (PIM).
• Familiarity with Microsoft Sentinel (SIEM), Microsoft Defender suite, and Azure Monitor.
• PowerShell scripting for automation of security tasks and reporting.
• Proficiency with network protocols, firewall configuration, and endpoint management.

Soft Skills

• Strong leadership and communication abilities.
• Critical thinking and strategic decision-making in high-stakes scenarios.
• Ability to present technical content to non-technical stakeholders.
• Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
