The Opportunity A Role that Matters - Join our Montréal-based tailings and dams team and shape some of Canada's most significant mining projects. In this senior role, you'll bring deep geotechnical and dam engineering expertise to the design, safety assessment, and long-term performance of tailings storage facilities, water dams, and associated earthworks. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you'll help clients manage risk, protect communities and the environment, and deliver safe, resilient mine infrastructure.
Your Impact - Deliver geotechnical analyses, designs, and reports for mining projects including tailings storage facility dikes/dams, water management systems, waste rock piles, and open pits.
- Lead stability, seepage, and settlement analyses using tools such as the GeoStudio suite (SLOPE/W, SEEP/W, SIGMA/W).
- Plan and conduct dam safety inspections, dam safety reviews and assessments, and risk assessments aligned with industry standards.
- Prepare and review technical deliverables such as feasibility and detailed design reports, plans, specifications, and technical notes.
- Develop and review technical specifications and quantity takeoffs that support accurate estimating and construction planning.
- Coordinate and integrate design inputs from hydrogeology, hydrology, geochemistry, rock mechanics, and environmental teams.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers-in-training and technicians, fostering a culture of quality and learning.
- Manage contractors and subcontractors, particularly on remote jobsites, ensuring safe, high-quality execution.
- Support the preparation and review of service proposals and client documentation.
The Skills That Set You Apart - Degree in geotechnical, civil, mining, or geological engineering from an accredited university.
- At least 10 years of experience in civil or geotechnical engineering with a strong focus on embankment dams, tailings storage facilities, or related earthworks on mine sites.
- Registered as a professional engineer with the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
- Demonstrated experience applying standards from bodies such as the Canadian Dam Association (CDA), Directive 019, and the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM).
- Proven ability to manage multiple mining or construction projects in parallel, including budgeting and cost forecasting responsibilities.
- Comfortable working in a bilingual environment (French/English) and engaging directly with clients and field teams.
- Ability and willingness to travel within Canada and internationally as required; valid driver's licence and ASP Construction certification.
