The Department of Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Statistical Associate . This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
This position reports to the Principal Investigator and is part of the Department of Medicine, Section of Nephrology at the University of Calgary.
The team is engaged in cutting-edge health services research in areas of chronic disease management and evaluation, including studies of drug safety and effectiveness. The groups utilize large administrative and clinical datasets. The Statistical Associate will be part of a large, established, dynamic research team that includes MSc and PhD trained statisticians and researchers.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to) :
- Accurate and timely analysis of results in accordance with project objectives and deliverables
- Provides appropriate recommendations to team members for using applicable statistical techniques
- Provides clear instructions and guidance on tasks when overseeing the work of others, resulting in the accurate and timely completion of the project / task at hand
- Actively participates in conversations that engage colleagues and superiors in topic-specific conversations during scientific rounds and team meetings
- Collaborate with team members to meet project checkpoints and accomplish team objectives
- Consults, both independently and in collaboration with other team members, on the statistical analysis of data related to the project
- Conduct statistical analyses including logistic regression modeling, survival analysis, and analysis of longitudinal data
- Prepare written summaries of data analyses which include figures and tables, as needed for scientific presentations and research manuscripts.
- Provide analytical support for research projects
- Develop and implement advanced analytic methods
- Develop data analysis plans and execution
- Report and publish findings in scientific mediums (manuscripts, conference presentations, research rounds etc.)
- Create, manage and maintain administrative and laboratory databases using SAS, STATA, or R, as required
- Develop, manage and maintain clear database-related documentation and steps performed
- Obtain and review literature to determine appropriate statistical techniques and other methodological considerations, as required
- Actively engage in research team development including attendance at scientific rounds and team meetings
Qualifications / Requirements :
Master's degree in epidemiology, health services research, or biostatistics (relevant work experience is an asset)3-5years of related experience, educational experience will be consideredAdvanced knowledge of, and proficiency in, statistical programming languages (SAS, Stata, R) and methodsFamiliarity with issues related to the analysis of administrative, laboratory, and medication data with application to the study of chronic diseaseExcellent, organizational, time management, and problem solving skillsExemplary interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, including manuscript preparationAbility to clearly communicate and present concepts in biostatistics, health services research, and epidemiology to health researchers and team membersExcellent knowledge of standard system software applications MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)Demonstrated commitment to accuracy and attention to detailAbility to work well independently and as part of a teamUnderstanding of machine learning algorithms and AI principlesWorking knowledge in Data Visualization tools, such as Tableau, Power BI, or equivalentAdvanced knowledge of database technologies such as Microsoft SQL, or No SQL databasesExperience in Digital Marketing, Cloud Computing, Big Data and relevant technologies is an assetApplication Deadline : June 14, 2024
