Description de posteEnsure, establish, and apply the highest standards in animal welfare and captive care in compliance with various regulatory and accreditation bodies Develop and implement policies and procedures related to animal care Collaborate in planning the animal collection, breeding, and conservation programs Oversee the development of the animal collection and maintain strong ties with the zoological community; promote the organization’s involvement in accredited programs Manage relationships with external partners (organizations, regulations, professional associations) Ensure animals receive preventive and curative veterinary care Work with the nutritionist to develop and maintain a nutrition program that meets the needs of the collection, including purchasing and inventory management Participate in planning and / or design activities related to the development of the Granby Zoological Society Contribute to the scheduling of various projects (master plan and capital projects) Collaborate with the team on the design and implementation of new habitats according to the master plan Promote a forward-thinking philosophy in animal welfare and ensure alignment across management, the board of directors, and other departments Identify needs in accordance with standards for capital projects related to animal care Participate in developing a research ethics code in compliance with standards from the Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC), the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks, and Environment Canada Authorize ex situ research and conservation programs in line with animal welfare, and the organization’s human and financial capacities Supervise the animal care department staff (coordinators, veterinarians, nutritionist, curator, secretary) A bachelor’s degree in animal biology, zoology, veterinary medicine, wildlife management, or a related field, or equivalent experience in the zoological domain 5 years of experience in a managerial role Knowledge of animal welfare principles, behavior, and physiology Inspiring leadership, strategic thinking, and ability to manage multidisciplinary teams Ability to collaborate with scientific, educational, and institutional partners Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders Strong written and verbal communication skills, advanced bilingualism (interactions with other institutions, AZA accreditation) Professional attitude and behavior (teamwork, autonomy, dynamism, interpersonal skills, honesty, versatility, initiative, organizational skills, etc.) Proficiency in relevant computer systems Permanent management position, 40 hours per week Variable schedule; may include evenings, weekends, or holidays Working conditions according to the management and professional staff development policy Salary conditions to be discussed based on qualifications and experience

You will supervise all animal care activities according to accreditation standards, ensuring animal welfare (AW), collection management, veterinary care, nutrition, enrichment, and training. You will collaborate with research, education, conservation, and development teams, while supporting corporate projects related to animals.
