OPERATIONS : Community Services Department.
HOURS OF WORK : 40 hours per week, pursuant to the Collective Agreement. Shifts are Monday‑Friday scheduled between 7 : 30am and 5 : 30pm.
POSITION : Union Affiliation.
RATE OF PAY : $24.90 per hour ($25.64 July 1) plus 4% in lieu of benefits.
Employment period : June 1, 2026 to August 28, 2026.
General Statement of Duties : The incumbent shall assist the Day Camp Programmer in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the Summer Day Camp and Recreational Programs and shall exercise good judgement and initiative in their work.
Supervision : Responsible to the Director of Community Services under the direction of the Children and Youth Recreation Program Coordinator and the Summer Day Camp Programmer.
Major Duties And Responsibilities
- Plan a wide variety of day camp and recreational activities suitable for children and youth; including games, sports, arts and crafts, drama, puppetry, singing, storytelling, field trips, visitors, and special events.
- Work in cooperation with supervisors and co‑workers from other businesses / agencies for outings and educational adventures.
- Ensure that activities are provided in an environment that is safe, respectful, and enjoyable for all the children participating in the program.
- Ensure standards and level of care are maintained at a high quality for each participant.
- Ensure that the program reflects the cultural diversity of Williams Lake.
- Follow pre‑determined procedures for dealing with behavior challenges and emergency situations.
- Maintain open communication with the Summer Day Camp Coordinator and Day Camp / Recreation Leaders.
- Pre‑vent problems from arising by thinking pro‑actively and anticipating possible barriers to success.
- Respond in a positive manner to inquiries from other staff, parents, guardians, and children.
- Follow all licensing regulations and predetermined behavioral action plans.
- Attend staff meetings as scheduled.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Submission of the Canada Summer Jobs survey within one (1) week of starting employment and again, within one (1) week of employment end date.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Minimum Grade XII education.Minimum 19 years and over.Must have a clean criminal record check including vulnerable persons.Valid B.C. Driver’s License.Valid Standard First Aid Certificate.High Five Certification recommended.Previous experience working with children.Ability to deal courteously, tactfully, and diplomatically with people of all ages.Knowledgeable in all aspects of camp and recreational programming including crafts, sports, and community resources.Motivated, energetic, and able to work within deadlines.Strong leadership, communication, and administration skills.Proof of the following MUST be submitted with your application
Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License (or other province / higher classes may be accepted).Valid Standard First Aid Certificate (valid for the term of employment) or ability to complete the Standard First Aid Course.Proof of a credited course, or a combination of courses, of at least 20 hours in duration in child development (or child guidance, health and safety, nutrition, or related topic).Application Instructions
