About Hillel Ontario

Hillel Ontario is the largest Hillel in the world, operating at nine universities with a combined Jewish student population of 14,000.

Hillel embraces religious and political diversity in an inclusive environment and supports a broad spectrum of identities while students grow intellectually, socially, and spiritually, opening up new ways for them to make a meaningful impact on the future of the Jewish people and the world.

Through innovative campus programming, student leadership training, life-changing immersive experiences, and educational and religious initiatives, Hillel engages, empowers, and inspires the next generation of Jewish leaders to make an enduring commitment to Jewish life, Jewish learning and Israel.

About the Role

In consultation with the Hillel Ontario Advocacy Task Force, this person will create a robust and comprehensive educational strategy to advance the organization’s Israel and Jewish advocacy agenda.

Working alongside Hillel’s campus directors across the Province, the Director will be responsible for ensuring campus staff and student leaders have the educational training required to most effectively advocate for Jewish students rights on campus.

The Director will also work to educate the broader campus community about Jewish issues, history, and areas of concern.

Key Responsibilities

  • Train and mentor the cohort of campus-based junior advocacy professionals.
  • Oversee a fellowship of student advocates from across the province who engage in training, joint learning, and events.
  • Proactively collaborate and coordinate with other Jewish and / or Israel advocacy organizations operating on campus to further Hillel’s strategic advocacy objectives and strengthen intra-organizational relationships.
  • Coordinate and convene large-scale cross-campus initiatives, speakers, and opportunities
  • Visit campuses regularly to provide training and education for staff and students.
  • Provide antisemitism training for student leaders, student groups and unions, faculty, and university administrators.
  • Strategically create educational content to post on Hillel’s various social media platforms.
  • Coordinate a variety of immersive experiences to engage students in advocacy and Israel education, including running fact-finding missions to Israel.
  • Be an integral part of Hillel’s campus student-facing team; ready to get involved immediately.
