FireSmart Coordinator

Position Summary

The District of Coldstream is seeking a dedicated, experienced professional to join the team as a FireSmart Coordinator. This is a temporary role going to May 30, 2027, which may be extended, subject to the approval of continued grant funding.

Reporting to the Protective Services Manager, the FireSmart Coordinator is responsible for the leadership and facilitation of FireSmart related activities within the District of Coldstream. The position ensures that FireSmart activities are supported, developed, and implemented in accordance with Provincial guidelines and the direction and policy provided by the District of Coldstream to promote wildfire prevention and emergency preparedness. Responsibilities include engaging with residents, conducting risk assessments, organizing community outreach programs, coordinating wildfire mitigation projects, and maintaining records and reports related to fire prevention activities. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including local authorities and community members, to enhance wildfire safety and awareness.

Required Education and Experience

• Minimum 3 years experience working with wildfire mitigation, planning, response, recovery, or equivalent.
• Minimum 1 year experience in program delivery, program management, or equivalent.
• Valid BC Drivers’ License Class 5.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The successful candidate will be required to have a reliable vehicle for local and regional travel for work purposes and mileage will be reimbursed by the District at the current rate of $0.63 per kilometer (adjusted annually as per provincial rates).

This is a union position, and relevant provisions of the CUPE Collective Agreement pertain. The hours of work are generally Monday to Friday, 8 : 30 am to 4 : 30 pm, 35 hours per week. However, due to the nature of the work, the position will sometimes require flexible and irregular hours, resulting in non-standard hours and / or work weeks. The hourly rate for this position is $42.30 plus 17.5% of total earnings in lieu of vacation, statutory holidays, and benefits.
