Job Description

The is seeking a team-orientated and highly skilled Urologist to join its Department of Surgery, Division of Urology in Regina, Saskatchewan, in a fee-for-service setting. Candidates with experience or training in Reconstructive Urology or in Men's Health will be given preference.

Guaranteed weekly OR access and a generous amount of procedural time in the ambulatory care and endoscopy units will be available to the successful candidate upon arrival. The program is complimented with a high-quality Anesthesiology program and a day surgery unit which has extended hours for patient recovery. The arriving specialist would share in a minimum of a 1 in 5 call rotation.

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate experience and training in Urology, appropriate for an academic, tertiary care level, referral centre. The candidate will be expected to show evidence of interpersonal and collaborative skills with initiatives to further advance the clinical and academic productivity of the SHA. Commitment and demonstrated interest in research and surgical education at all levels are expected.

Call coverage is a requirement for the position. In addition to fee-for-service, you would be eligible for any on-call retainer consistent with the Specialist Emergency Coverage Program.

Targeted Surgical Specialty Recruitment and Retention Incentive

The Targeted Surgical Specialty Recruitment and Retention Incentive will be an expansion of the current high-need specialist incentive and will be available to the above outlined specialists who provide full-time, on-site in-hospital or community-based services to support recruitment efforts to address vacancies and shortages in Regina.

This incentive will offer $200,000 over five years to Urologists or ENTs who provide full-time service, broken out as follows:

  • Year 1: $40,000 after 12 months of practice
  • Year 2: $40,000 after 24 months of practice
  • Year 3: $20,000 after 36 months of practice
  • Year 4: $50,000 after 48 months of practice
  • Year 5: $50,000 after 60 months of practice

Eligibility Criteria

  • Establish full-time practice on or after July 1, 2025, in the fields of Urology or ENT in Regina.
  • Physicians must be new to practice in Saskatchewan.
  • Provide 220 days or more of service and fully participate in on-call in the eligible community. Providing less than 220 days of service will not qualify for the incentive.
  • Have provided service during at least ten (10) of the twelve (12) months of each previous service year.
  • Be a member of Practitioner Staff Affairs with the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) in good standing and hold an active license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan.
  • To remain eligible, a physician must remain in the same community for each of the five (5) years consecutively.
  • Providing locum service does not qualify.
  • Physicians who relocate within Saskatchewan do not qualify.
  • Physicians can only receive the incentive once in a lifetime.

Job Qualifications

The ideal candidate will hold certification or be eligible for certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Urology.

This individual should be a team player, be able to interact effectively with patients, colleagues, staff and management, and function well in a high-volume environment with a commitment to the provision of high-quality patient and family-centred care.
