JOB SUMMARY
The After Hours Manager / Administrator is the most senior clinical manager on site and is responsible for addressing any and all issues that arise in consultation with the Senior Leader on-call, as required. Responsibilities include the oversight of all clinical areas, the coordination of site / corporate patient flow, providing support to staff, patients and visitors and coordinating nursing staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Facilitates the flow and / movement of patients throughout the organization by :
- Understanding and acting on the corporate priority of ensuring that the emergency department has as few patients as possible awaiting an inpatient bed
- Understanding the process for assigning beds to patients when all “existing” beds are in use, i.e. overflow beds
- Understanding the process(s) for transferring patients to other health care facilities locally, in Ontario, Canada or the United States
- Facilitating the admission, discharge and transfer of patients in collaboration with all hospital services including the admitting and emergency departments and with the most responsible staff nurses (charge nurse / RP / MRP)
- Identifying issues and / or barriers to having patients admitted to in-patient beds and offering solutions to the issues identified
- Facilitates the utilization of nursing staff resources throughout the organization by :
- Understanding the corporate programs and services
- Understanding the staff to patient ratios for the various programs, services and clinical areas and the variability of these ratios i.e. patient acuity, experience of staff, etc.
- Being knowledgeable about the Collective Agreements that govern the roles and responsibilities of staff
- Effectively coordinating nursing staff resources according to patient and nursing staff needs
- Supports the on-going development of effective and efficient program teams by :
- Facilitating regular communication with the nursing and support teams to ensure the effective flow of communication through the program and services and across the organization
- Providing nursing leadership with regular reports and feedback regarding opportunities for improvement
- Providing input into nursing staff performance as required especially in situations where disciplinary actions are required
- Maintains a safe and healthy work environment for all staff, patients, visitors, physicians, volunteers and families by :
- Assuming supervisory responsibilities as per section 27 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Reporting and investigating incidents or hazards and taking corrective action when necessary
- Regularly inspecting work areas and ensuring the elimination of hazards
QUALIFICATIONS :
Current Certificate of Registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario, requiredBaccalaureate Degree in Nursing required3-5 years healthcare managerial experience and / or equivalent healthcare experience preferredMinimum 5 years relevant clinical experience requiredFrench Language proficiency an assetOTHER :
