Location and Season

Southwestern Ontario – 2026 Field Season with WSP. The position is seasonal, beginning in Spring 2026 as soon as weather allows. Sites include Burlington, Mississauga, Whitby, London, Ottawa, and Thunder Bay.

Role Overview

As a member of the WSP Archaeology Team, you will be involved in all stages of archaeological fieldwork in Ontario, from Stage 2 surveys to Stage 4 excavations. The role is supported by a strong collective bargaining agreement through LiUNA.

A Day in the Life

• Complete archaeological fieldwork under the supervision of an experienced Field Supervisor (Stage 2 surveys, Stage 3 site‑specific assessments, Stage 4 mitigations)
• Work outdoors in a variety of weather and ground conditions
• Support Field Supervisors and provide assistance when needed
• Collaborate with other field technicians and assist with field activities as required
• Maintain high standards of ethical and professional behavior and demonstrate a “Safety First” focus, acting as a role model to other staff

What You’ll Bring to WSP

• Ability to work daily at field site locations and enjoy fieldwork in a team environment
• Willingness and ability to perform physically demanding and repetitive tasks, including hand shoveling, troweling, and screening soil/earth; must be able to lift up to 40 lbs
• Good interpersonal and communication skills to convey information, questions, and concerns to the Field Supervisor promptly
• Capability to work well as part of a team or independently when required
• Ability to travel and work on out‑of‑town projects (hotel stays) as needed
• Valid Ontario driver’s license and clean driver abstract; reliable transportation to and from the project site is essential
• Knowledge of archaeological artifacts (asset)
• Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field (asset)
• One (1) field season of archaeological experience in Ontario, including shovel testing and test unit excavation (asset)
• Desire to experience working for a leading environmental consulting firm and to join a growing, thriving team
