Finance Consultant

RaisaHR is a boutique HR and Recruitment agency. We are searching for a freelance Finance Consultant for a 24 hour/week contract with a startup client in Montreal.

About the company:

Operating in the agricultural technology sector, this Montreal-based startup is growing quickly, doubling growth year-over-year, and preparing to raise a series A round.

They currently work with a Finance Coach and an external Accountant, but they need someone dedicated to oversee the financial strategy and operations as they scale.

Contract:

This is a 24 hour/week contract for a minimum of 6 months to start with, with possibility to increase hours or become permanent over time.

Location:

The work can be done remotely or in their Montreal office. In-office work is required at least 1-2 days/month.

Responsibilities:

Financial, Fiscal & Legal Compliance

• Lead financial operations: bookkeeping, reporting, tax filings, payroll, and compliance (IFRS, Canada/US).
• Oversee internal accounting team; ensure accuracy in payroll, sales tax, and filings.
• Maintain the cap table; ensure legal and fiscal compliance.
• Identify and manage grant opportunities; support HR planning.
• Deliver monthly financial reports and performance analysis.
• Build financial models tailored to agtech (seasonality, regulation, trends).
• Lead budgeting, pricing, and expansion planning.

Cash Flow & Cost Management

• Implement forecasting and working capital strategies for a B2B SaaS agtech model.
• Optimize costs and budgets while maintaining scalability.
• Communicate financial insights across the company.
• Support fundraising: projections, decks, and due diligence.
• Manage investor, bank, and funding partner relationships.
• Oversee SR&ED claims and related financing programs.

Requirements

• 5+ years in finance, ideally in high-growth startups or tech
• Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field; CPA or MBA is a plus
• Experience with B2B SaaS, recurring revenue, and unit economics
• Strong budgeting, forecasting, and reporting skills
• Able to build tools/systems for cross-functional teams
• Comfortable in fast-paced, evolving environments
• Experience working with leadership to align finance with strategy
• Clear communicator with non-finance teams
• Fully bilingual in English and French
