Our client is looking for a Health, Safety & Environment Specialist to support their Victoria BC location. In this role you will be working full time hours, on a 4 months assignment, working fully onsite.
The HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) Specialist will work closely with the HSE / Facilities Manager as well as the Esquimalt Operations Manager to ensure all HSE standards are met as well as recorded in the appropriate systems to ensure ISO standard compliance.
The HSE Specialist will assume a dynamic role within the Esquimalt team.
The role will lead the development and implementation of the MWAV Program HSE strategy, management systems and plans. In addition, will provide advice, leadership and hands-on support to project personnel and assist in the promotion and education of HSE principles.

Responsibilities
This role is instrumental in implementing Thales Canada, Defence & Security strategy, policy and systems for Health, Safety and Environment.
HSE Responsibilities
- Support the implementation of the HSE Management System and its supporting tools, processes and required employee competencies.
- Ensure analysis of accident, incident and complaint investigations for significant events to ensure the business is meeting its legal requirements, to identify any non-conformity and identify continual improvement.
- Delivery of Safety Culture improvement programs to support safety evolution and behavioral improvements.
- In coordination with the HSE / Facilities Manager, ensure training requirements and documented records are maintained.
- Act as a liaison with CFB Esquimalt base safety and FMFCB Safety Manager.
- Support the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
- Report and investigate all accidents / incidents and facilitate form completion.
- Liaise with external service contractors to ensure HSE compliancy.
- Manage the creation, monitoring and resolution of corrective action requests.
- Assist in the creation and maintenance of various databases, such as the site legal register and SharePoint repository.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of risk assessments, environmental aspect analysis, and general HSE processes and conditions.
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of relevant legal, regulatory and company safety and environmental requirements. Co.
- Assist with emergency preparedness and planning for the work site.
- Construct and implement the Waterfront Safety Plan with coordination with site management.
- Manage, promote and maintain the Thales Cares Program.
Flexibility in hours, as occasionally on-call after hours may be required.
Qualifications
Special Requirements :
- Access to Trade Controlled Hardware, Software, Technical Information
- Controlled Goods Program Clearance
- NATO Security Clearance
Minimum Requirements :
- 3-5 years’ experience with safety management systems.
- Strong skills in all MS Office platforms.
Education :
Post-secondary certificate or degree in technology and / or health, safety and environmental field is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
Skills and Abilities :
- Thorough knowledge of all applicable Federal and Provincial legislation regarding Occupational Health and Safety plus any other relevant laws and regulations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to deal diplomatically with people at all levels.
- Ability to problem solve, with a high attention to detail.
Education :
- First aid courses (levels 1, 2 or 3)
- Joint Health & Safety Committee Certification
- Working knowledge of ISO 14001 : 2015 and ISO 45001 : 2018.
