The UGDSB employs a team of approximately 4,000 dedicated staff who serve more than 35,000 students attending a variety of programs across 65 elementary and 11 secondary schools as well as continuing education and adult learning centres in the counties of Dufferin, Wellington, and the City of Guelph. THE OPPORTUNITY
The UGDSB is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Educational Assistant team in the capacity of Educational Assistant (EA) Casual Supply List . Casual Supply EAs replace absent EA’s on an as-needed basis or for short-term assignments in both the elementary and secondary English and French Immersion Programs.
Location :
All geographical areas of the Board including North Wellington, Centre Wellington, East Wellington, Guelph, Orangeville, Dufferin County and Shelburne however Casual Supply EAs may select specified areas in which they would like to work.
Hours of work / FTE
While there is no guarantee of hours per week as this is a casual position, a casual employee with full availability could work full time (1.0 FTE ; 32.5 hours per week) depending on need.
Casual supply EAs with the Board have opportunity to apply for vacant permanent or temporary positions as they arise, with possible consideration over external applicants.
Rate of Pay / Salary Range :
29.92 per hour; wage rate effective September 1, 2024, plus applicable vacation pay, in accordance with Employment Standards Act

Reporting to the school Principal, Educational Assistants (EA) on Casual Supply List must possess willingness, along with the physical ability, to work with all of our students who have many diverse needs. This is a 10-month position (September to June) to start as soon as possible.
Responsibilities :
Educational Assistants work with students with many diverse needs. This work provides support for the behaviour, safety, medical and physical needs of a student. Duties may include lifting, toileting, positioning and transferring children and equipment and application of BMS. Educational Assistants work with students both individually and / or in a group setting.
Perform other duties as assigned
Experience and Qualifications :
Preference will be given to candidates who have the following qualifications :
Educational Assistant Diploma, and / or a combination of formal education (fields related to the development of children and / or special education) and work experience deemed equivalent by the Board
Post-Secondary Degree in a related field of study
A valid Behaviour Management Systems certification is required for this position
Proven ability and recent experience in working with students with special needs and behavioural disabilities is strongly preferred and school-based experience is a definite asset
Autism Spectrum Disorder Training
Lifting / Positioning Training
Flexibility, patience, empathy and the ability to work closely with students with complex needs, classroom teacher, parents and Administration
Candidates must be capable of performing the essential physical duties of the position, such as lifting, positioning and transferring children and equipment and utilizing BMS techniques where required
Access to a reliable method of transportation and ability to attend specific schools
