Job Summary :

In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of PHSA, safety, including both patient and employee safety, is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA. As such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Director, Leadership Development, the Leadership Coach is responsible for ongoing development of individuals and teams to enhance the organization’s performance. The Leadership Coach facilitates and leads leadership development programs and courses across PHSA, contributes to culture and organizational development strategies and projects, and coaches teams & individual leaders. The Leadership Coach works collaboratively with other Teams to assess leadership needs and supports all elements of PHSA’s integrated Leadership Continuity Strategy but specifically the development of leadership competencies, leadership continuity projects and leadership development programs. Leads and participates in the development, and facilitation of leadership programs, including coaching. Partners strategically, both internally and externally to share knowledge and enhance integration in an increasingly complex health and human resource environment.

Duties / Accountabilities :

  • Designs and / or participates in the design and delivery of personal, management and leadership development programs or processes across PHSA.
  • Partners with Clinical and Corporate Departments as well as HR partners to assess needs and determine / develop plans and programs to support leadership development and competency optimization, to support PHSA’s overall Leadership Continuity Strategy and accountability of ‘leaders growing leaders’.
  • Provides recommendations on leadership development programs in alignment with the human resource goals and objectives of PHSA.
  • Maintains online systems related to course participation and assessments.
  • Supports program design and training to staff and physicians to develop organizational capacity and excellence in the areas of leadership development and competency, utilizing new and emerging technologies to support learning and system adoption.
  • Collaborates with provincial health authority partners to achieve integration of leadership programs, at the direction of the BC Health Leadership Development Collaborative.
  • Performs needs assessment and delivers targeted mindset, skill set, and capabilities curriculum and / or programs to address the needs identified.
  • Builds organizational capacity and increases leadership support within PHSA programs by identifying, developing, and delivering leveraged organizational & leadership development.
  • Collaborates with HR Business Consulting, Workforce & Succession Planning, and the Workplace Culture & Experience teams to ensure an integrated and consistent service delivery and overall effectiveness of PHSA HR programs and strategies.
  • Coaches leaders and teams in applying and / or improving employee engagement, change, continuous improvement, team building, and culture.

Qualifications :

A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Master’s degree in Adult Learning or Organizational Learning and Training, plus five (5) years of recent related experience in the design and delivery of leadership development programs including competency development. Coaching certification is preferred.

Excellent communication skills including the ability to train, facilitate, negotiate and persuade others. Systems thinking and political awareness are essential. Strong analysis and problem solving abilities required. Internal consulting role requires leadership, facilitation and problem solving skills. Excellent organizational skills including the ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines. Highly developed analytical and critical thinking skills. Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills. Ability to deal effectively with all levels of staff. Strong, positive team player with a collaborative work style.
