About us

The (SATCC) performs four main roles : we train apprentices; certify apprentices and tradespeople; regulate the apprenticeship system of training; and promote apprenticeship as a way for employers to meet their labour market requirements.

The SATCC also represents Saskatchewan on interprovincial initiatives. Our vision is the most skilled and representative workforce, industry trained and certified. Our mandate is to develop, promote, and execute a relevant, accessible and responsive apprenticeship training and certification system to meet the needs of employers, apprentices, journeypersons and tradespersons.

The Opportunity

The Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission (SATCC) is seeking a positive, client-focused individual to join our team as the (SYA) Program Manager for one year. The Saskatchewan Youth Apprenticeship (SYA) program is a high school program designed to help students discover the rewards of working in the skilled trades through research and hands-on learning. It provides students with a comprehensive understanding of what’s required to achieve journeyperson certification. The successful candidate will supervise a staff of three : two SYA Program Consultants and the SYA and Communications Administrative Coordinator.

Reporting to the Director of Communications, you will :

• Manage and oversee activities associated with the SYA program;
• Develop and implement strategies to grow participation in the SYA program;
• Regularly assess and make recommendations in an effort to continuously improve the program;
• Coach and mentor SYA staff to ensure the effective promotion and delivery of the program;
• Work closely with educators and students to ensure apprenticeship information is delivered clearly and accurately;
• Attend career fairs, parent nights and other events to promote and share information regarding apprenticeship; the skilled trades and the SYA program; and
• Deliver classroom presentations to middle years and high school students.

The successful candidate will be based out of Saskatoon. The SYA Manager will need to be willing to work irregular hours periodically. There are times when extensive travel is required, sometimes in adverse weather conditions to rural or remote areas. A valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a reliable personal vehicle is required.
