POSITION OVERVIEW
The Estimator plays a crucial role in the organization by providing accurate and detailed estimates for construction projects. They are responsible for analyzing project plans, specifications, and other relevant documents to determine project costs and timelines. The Estimator will work closely with the operations department, sales teams, and subcontractors to develop competitive bids and proposals that align with client requirements and the company's financial objectives. As a forward-facing representative of the organization, the Estimator is expected to set an example of integrity, accountability, and professionalism, serving as a role model for colleagues, stakeholders, and partners.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES :
- Prepare estimates of labour and / or material costs
- Prepare master format estimates (Class A)
- Prepare elemental format estimates (Classes B, C, D)
- Operate CADD and other computer software systems
- Prepare estimates for general expenses and overheads
- Provide economic feasibility studies and preliminary estimates for proposed projects
- Read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings and specification
- Project cash flow and financing requirements
- Estimate pre-contract costs
- Utilize quantity take-off procedures
- Advise on tendering procedures
- Analyze tenders and recommend awards
- Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems
- Monitor and adjust contract expenditures
- Prepare and maintain directory of supplies and trade contractors
- Liaise, consult and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates
JOB REQUIREMENTS :
College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 yearsMembership in the Canadian Institute of Quantity SurveyorsWHMIS CertificateMinimum of 5 years of experience as a Construction Estimator, preferably in Construction Management and General Contracting.Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.Proficiency in reading and interpreting architectural and engineering plans and specifications.Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.Advanced proficiency in estimating software and toolsAutoCAD
