Emergency Medical Care Inc. (EMC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Medavie Health Services (MHS) that manages and operates ground ambulance, air medical transport and medical communications operations in Nova Scotia. EMC operates over 180 ambulances from more than 60 stations, responding to over 165,000 calls annually. The EHS Operations LifeFlight program expands care into inter‑facility transports by helicopter, fixed wing, or ground ambulance. Paramedics in Nova Scotia also participate in community‑based and emergency‑preparedness programs.

The Quality Improvement (QI) Paramedic, focused on Integrated Health Programs (IHP), is integral to monitoring and improving EHS IHP service delivery and program development. In this unionized position, the incumbent reports to the Quality Improvement Supervisor and collaborates with EMC colleagues, EHS, and other partners.

Responsibilities

• Participate in, support, and lead quality‑improvement initiatives using quality‑improvement science to enhance clinical and operational performance.
• Identify improvement opportunities from audit results, surveys, EHS data, regulation directives, and stakeholder consultation.
• Plan and develop QI initiatives and projects, including performance‑measure development; data collection and visualization; QI‑tool application; working‑group facilitation; initiative testing; and knowledge translation through reports, presentations, and peer conversations.
• Coordinate clinical audits to monitor compliance with practice guidelines and standards, manage audit cases, track status, and provide audit training and feedback.
• Support data requests and evaluations for program analyses, research, training, and external QI projects, including report writing and data verification.
• Participate in committees and working groups, offering subject‑matter expertise to support organizational programs and initiatives.
