Overview
Cedar Heights is hiring a Direct Support Professional to work with children, adolescents and adults within our homes located in Mono, Orangeville, Tottenham, Stouffville, Markham, Richmond Hill and Stayner. Cedar Heights offers a dynamic workplace in a rapidly growing organization. We specialize in working with complex care clients diagnosed with neurodiversions such as Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Direct Support Professionals provide individuals with high levels of support and supervision in all areas of daily living including education, behaviour supports, community involvement and recreation.
Responsibilities
- Provide on-site, client-centered programming and assist residents with Life Skills Training, Personal and Self-Help Training, Arts & Crafts, Recreation and Leisure, and Educational Programs in various subject areas. Support community integration and advocate for clients within and outside the agency.
- Create and implement therapeutic programming with an emphasis on life skills and personal development; participate in the agency\'s training and workshops.
- Overnight (awake) Direct Support Professional responsibilities include hygiene support, daily living support, cleaning, food preparation, room safety checks, and some clerical duties.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education : Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field (completed or in progress) such as Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, CYW / CYC, Disability Support Worker or related fields.Experience with children and / or youth with disabilities; experience with individualized plans, life / social skills programming, and behavioral interventions.Experience in Trauma-Informed Care; ability to manage crisis situations; medication administration experience is an asset.Skills : strong written and verbal communication; computer literacy; ability to organize, plan, and prioritize with minimal supervision; ability to work in a fast-paced environment; ability to work as part of a team.Licenses / Certifications : First Aid / CPR – Level C; valid G driver\'s license and access to a vehicle; willingness to obtain required checks and immunization records as applicable.Work Details
Shifts : Day, Evening, Weekend, and Overnight (8 / 10 / 12 hour shifts) with availability for mornings, evenings, weekends and statutory holidays.Location : In person at one of our Ontario locations (Stayner, Mono, Orangeville, Tottenham, Stouffville, Richmond Hill).
