As an Uncertified Laboratory Assistant – MLA Student Training Programyou will be responsible for the pre and post analytical processing of laboratory specimens and / or entering requisitions accurately and in a timely manner while ensuring quality control checks and standards are run as required. Your contributions will make a difference and will greatly impact the downstream solutions and treatment critical to saving someone’s life. How YOU will make a difference :
Data enter all patient and test information for MOH and Private client requisitionsin an accurate and timely mannerVerify the completeness of all documentation and file related paperworkHandle STAT, verbal, critical and special instructions as requiredProcess add-on test requests and subsequent specimen selectionProcess all specimens including receiving, sorting, labeling, separation, and placing in appropriate areaFollow all guidelines for the handling of infectious materialSort and / or label all specimens received matching to the documentation providedPrioritize time sensitive specimensSeparate specimens according to sample type, barcodes and type of test. Ensure all specimens are placed in appropriate area for testing and / or shipment to an outside laboratoryResponsible for problem solvingLiaise with various departments for any problems and inquiriesPerform routine pre-analytical equipment maintenance following documented procedures, as requiredPrepare specimens, and documentation and shippingfor reference testingEnsure type of sample is correct for specified test and sent to correct reference laboratoryResponsible for follow-up on missing samples, documentation, results, etc.Prepare and record departmental daily / weekly and monthly environmental conditionsPrepare samples for analytical testing (aliquot, plate, centrifugation)Archive and or dispose of samples in accordance with written policies and proceduresLiaise with LHSC for any problems or inquiriesParticipate in a culture of safetyWhat YOU bring to the role :
Excellent data entry skills required (minimum 40 words per minute)Ability to handle incoming and outgoing phone calls and respond to changing priorities in a fast-paced environmentExcellent verbal and written English communication skillsStrong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team centered environmentNice to have : Knowledge of Omnitech Data Entry system / LISWorking Conditions
