We operate Narcity.com and MTLBlog.com, engaging readers with news, trending stories, and hyper-local content. Our editorial team spans multiple editions and covers topics from breaking news to local recommendations, keeping our audience informed on everything they need to know.

Your Role

We are looking for a passionate Writer to join MTL Blog who can handle a wide range of content—from news and AI updates to lifestyle, travel and things to do content. You should be someone who’s constantly out and about and always in the know about the city’s coolest events.

Your role is to create engaging, accessible content that speaks directly to our readers, residents, and visitors alike, who want to make the most of their time in Montreal.

This position is ideal for a writer who thrives in a fast-paced digital environment, has a strong voice, and can produce high volumes of content while staying aligned with our brand and editorial standards.

Your Responsibilities

Content Creation

• Write a range of articles about Montreal, news, lifestyle content, and AI-supported notices, all while upholding Narcity’s high editorial standards.
• Write compelling articles about Montreal’s food scene, local events, travel ideas, and must-try experiences for both locals and tourists.
• Craft listicles, guides, and features that reflect what locals and visitors are actually searching for and excited about.
• Publish engaging, well-researched content on a daily basis that’s informative, entertaining, and optimized for both SEO and Narcity’s various distribution platforms.
  
  

Local Insight & Trend Tracking

• Be on top of what’s trending in Montreal—from pop-up restaurants to seasonal activities.
• Use your knowledge, research skills, and social media savvy to discover great story angles and timely topics.

Content Refreshing

• Update and optimize existing articles where needed to keep information accurate and engaging.
• Work closely with the Managing Editor and other team members to pitch and refine content ideas.
• Take editorial feedback with an open mind and apply it to improve writing quality and structure.

Your Qualifications

• Experience: 2–3 years of writing experience in digital media, journalism, blogging, or content creation—especially lifestyle content. Bonus if you’ve written for a city guide, food site, or travel publication.
• Writing Volume: Comfortable producing at least 18 short form stories per week (or long form equivalent); fast turnaround and high quality are key.
• Montreal Know-How: A genuine passion for the city and its neighbourhoods, culture, food, and events.
• Writing Skills: Excellent grammar, engaging style, and a knack for writing conversational yet informative content.
• Digital Literacy: Familiarity with CMS platforms, SEO principles, AI-assisted content tools, and best practices for digital publishing.
• Adaptability: Ability to work independently, respond quickly to trends, and juggle multiple assignments.
• Language: Strong written English is required. French is a definite asset but not mandatory.

• Compensation: Commensurate with experience, within a range of CAD $55,000 – $65,000 annually.
  
  

Working Hours DisclaimerFor the first three months, the successful candidate will be expected to work 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM (EST) to align with training schedules and ensure optimal onboarding support. This is a fixed requirement during the ramp-up phase. Please note that the standard working hours for this position are 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM (EST). We emphasize this upfront to ensure clarity and alignment.
