Located in Innisfail, you work well under pressure and are able to prioritize workload and adapt to stressful and emergency situations using tact and diplomacy. You can follow lab processes and procedures exactly, enter the associated data reliably and correctly, and discern subtle differences in samples including urinalysis. Innisfail Hospital and Care Centre is a busy site where you will work both independently and as part of a team utilizing your organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. The position includes days and weekends. Conveniently situated on the Calgary‑Edmonton Corridor, Innisfail is a thriving mid‑size community in what some may say is the perfect location. It’s just 15 minutes south of Red Deer and an hour north of Calgary. The town has many amenities including walking trails, a golf course, theatre, and a swimming pool. The Innisfail Health Centre is an acute care facility with an active emergency department. Rosefield Centre is a seniors facility which is attached to the Health Centre.
Description
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.
Required Qualifications
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications
Cardiology training and experience including ECG's and Holter Monitors. All blood collection procedures including venipuncture, micropunctures, blood culture collection as well as collections on all patient ages including newborns, pediatrics and geriatrics. Driver’s License is required. Equivalencies may be considered. Equivalency is defined as completion of a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) and / or Combined Laboratory and Xray Technologist (CLXT) program in Canada; completion of a Medical Lab Technician / Technologist program outside of Canada; and / or MLT or CLXT students who have completed their phlebotomy training / rotation. Applicants with a high school diploma may be considered. Upon hire, you will be required to complete on‑the‑job phlebotomy training provided by APL at no cost, and formal training courses offered by SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) or NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology). The costs associated with these formal training courses will be your responsibility. You will be required to complete these training requirements within your probationary period, as per the Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA) collective agreement.
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum 2 years experience in a healthcare setting. Familiar with Clinitek Advantus. Experience with Muse and Cardioday. Recent experience with Epic Beaker. Current registration with CSMLS. Ability to communicate effectively in English. Good organizational skills and ability to assume responsibility. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work independently and promote teamwork. Receptive to new ideas and change. Urinalysis training including recent macro and micro u / a experience.
