Overview

About Us
We are a leading civil and marine contractor specializing in all aspects of marine infrastructure, pile installation, and bridgeworks for both public and private sector clients. Our team comprises industry experts who take on challenging projects — from docks, wharves, and retaining structures to heavy civil and coastal protective works — delivering safely, on time, and within budget.

We are part of the Hazelwood Group of Companies which provides us “small time flexibility” backed by the strength of a larger organization. Learn more at www.pimltd.ca and www.hazelwood.ca

We’re looking for a detail-driven, proactive Accountant who’s excited to contribute to the financial strength and operational success of our team. If you enjoy full-cycle accounting, thrive in a collaborative environment, and want a role where your expertise truly supports the business, this could be the perfect fit.

In this role, you’ll partner closely with management, provide accurate and timely financial insights, and oversee key accounting functions and processes. You’ll also support and guide administrators, helping create a reliable and well-organized finance environment.

Benefits of Employment – Why work at Pacific Industrial & Marine?

  • Comprehensive group benefits
  • RRSP matching
  • Long-term disability plans
  • Priority access to Maple Medical Virtual Care (access to a doctor 24/7 anywhere in Canada).
  • Strong team environment that encourages and financially supports continuing education and career advancement
  • Employee & Family Assistance Program

Compensation

  • $60,000 to $75,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications

What You’ll Do

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and strong internal controls
  • Lead the month-end close process, managing timelines, deliverables, and accountabilities
  • Maintain and strengthen internal control systems, recommending improvements as needed
  • Perform and supervise full-cycle accounting: AR, AP, payroll, benefits, journal entries, job costing, inter-company transactions, reconciliations, and consolidations
  • Support the accounting team with daily cash management, deposits, receipts, petty cash, and bank reconciliations
  • Track, cost, value, and report on inventory, assets, amortization, leases, loans, prepaids, accruals, and related accounts
  • Allocate repair, maintenance, and operational costs for job-related equipment and tools
  • Prepare monthly and year-end financial statements, including income tax accruals and remittances
  • Liaise with auditors, advisors, financial institutions, insurance partners, and tax agencies
  • Prepare budgets, forecasts, and ad hoc financial reporting for management
  • Maintain detailed, accurate working papers, schedules, and documentation
  • Support the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures
  • Stay current with changing accounting standards, rules, and regulatory updates
  • Provide financial information and reporting to operational leaders for decision-making
  • Assist the team with coverage during leaves or peak periods
  • Ensure accurate and timely GST, PST, WCB compliance, reconciliations, and remittances
  • Perform other financial duties as required—responsibilities may evolve with the needs of the team

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
  • CPA designation is an asset
  • 2–3 years of full-cycle accounting experience
  • Strong working knowledge of Sage, QuickBooks, or Explorer Eclipse
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills; proficient with Outlook and Word
  • Clear, professional business communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, prioritization, and time-management abilities
  • High attention to detail and commitment to meeting deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Self-motivated with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Solid understanding of relevant accounting standards, rules, and regulations
