• Currently enrolled in an engineering geoscience or related post secondary diploma or degree program

Assets:

• Knowledge of GPS principles and techniques as well as training in GIS Software (ArcGIS (ESRI)) and Google Workspace
• Coursework/training in GIS software products
• Valid Alberta Class 5 drivers licence (or provincial equivalent). Must arrange own transportation to be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. This may require business auto insurance
• Knowledge of the principles of Universal Design

Join the City of Edmonton as an Infrastructure Accessibility Summer Student and play a key role in making our city more accessible for everyone. This unique opportunity will allow you to apply your academic knowledge to real-world infrastructure projects focusing on identifying and assessing physical barriers in our Open Spaces including parks and playgrounds. You will be instrumental in assessing existing infrastructure against City accessibility standards contributing directly to a more inclusive urban environment. This position offers valuable hands-on experience in GIS data collection and applied accessibility best practices making a tangible difference for our community partners. Youll gain hands-on skills while working with an inclusive and supportive team dedicated to service excellence.

What will you do:

• Schedule and conduct site visits to City owned and maintained open spaces to assess compliance with the City of Edmonton accessibility standard using a mobile GIS application
• Travel to and from sites and navigate through open spaces to take photos and measurements ensuring high-quality relevant visual references are captured
• Use GPS/GNSS technology to accurately collect location attribution and data observed in accordance with established accessibility standards
• Utilize various software to pre-process and post-process digital information into quantifiable accessibility scores
• Maintain and update critical data sets using GIS software
• Perform preliminary Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) protocols interpret results and propose corrective actions for data discrepancies
• Create and update support documentation and complete data quality control resolution procedures
• Report on productivity accomplishments to ensure project timelines are met
• Ensure all material is restocked equipment is accounted for recharged and maintained on a daily basis
• Provide constructive feedback on the mobile GIS application to help with refinements and improvements to the assessment process
• Assist with other office tasks as assigned to support the team
