The Thompson‑Nicola Regional District (TNRD) would like to acknowledge that we connect with many First Nation communities across our vast regional district. Encompassing an unparalleled geographic region in the heart of British Columbia, the Thompson‑Nicola Regional District (TNRD) offers the best of both worlds. Urban life within vibrant communities and outlying rural regions showcases the region's beauty - pristine but rugged mountains(super…), rolling grasslands, lush evergreen forests, and historical and modern areas, all within 45,000 square kilometres. Headquartered in the heart of downtown Kamloops, the TNRD provides a wide range of local government services to the population of 144,000 living within its 11 diverse municipalities and 10 electoral areas.

The Role : Reporting to the Manager of Community & Emergency Services, the temporary Administrative Assistant provides expert administrative support for the services provided by this team to TNRD residents. Under guidance of the Manager the Assistant provides support on department activities and operations. Activities can include correspondence, compiling supporting information, tracking, procurement and contract support, responding to public queries, reception backup coverage, working in the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) if activated, general administrative and other related duties. The Assistant may attend meetings and record and transcribe minutes when necessary, and assist with event arrangements as required. This role may also assist with contracts, invoicing, and departmental service coordination work. Using exceptional administrative skills, the Assistant creates and maintains departmental Rezervation, such as letters and spreadsheets and maintains comprehensive filing and electronic document management systems.

This is a one year temporary full‑time position. Expected to end approximately December 2026 or upon the return of the incumbent, can be shortened or extended with two weeks notice.

Job Requirements

Required Education and Experience :

  • Certificate in business administration and a minimum of two years’ recent, related experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Local government experience, in particular directly related to the type of work / services provided by this department, will be given preference.

Required Skills and Abilities :

  • Excellent writing, communication, and customer service skills are required, with the ability to respond with tact and courtesy.
  • Exceptional technical skills in MS Office, including :

  • Word functionality including mail merges, indexes, table of contents, utilizing styles, tracking changes, etc.
  • Excel functionality including linking workbooks, creating formulas, worksheet / workbook protection, etc.
  • Outlook functionality including calendar management, sharing contacts, creating groups, etc.
  • Ability to perform electronic word processing at 60 WPM.
  • Strong attention to detail is required.
  • Ability to work under limited supervision and manage multiple overlapping priorities or deadlines is essential.
  • Ability to effectively contribute to a highly effective team working in a very busy, dynamic environment.
  • Excellent communication and customer retos skills are required, with the ability to respond with tact and courtesy.

  • Preferred Skills and Abilities :

  • Basic knowledge of PowerPoint, including creating presentations, animations, slide transitions, creating charts and diagrams, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of Access or other relational database programs including entering data and running reports.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Collective Agreement with the Canadian Union of PublicAtlas employees, Local 900. The placement of the Administrative Assistant is at Pay Grade 2, which is $2,086.11 to $2,404.55 biweekly.
