POSITION FUNCTION

Coordinate schedule assign and review night street cleaning operations.

KEY DUTIES

Coordinate assign review and participate in the work of approximately 8-10 staff including equipment operators and labourers performing sidewalk and street cleaning functions; ensure schedules procedures and established performance and safety standards are met; provide employee training and input to employee appraisals.

Respond to emergency calls such as oil spills on roads and waterways; attend site and direct appropriate response such as assigning clean-up crews notifying fire department harbour contractor or environmental agencies; advise designated supervisor of snow or frost conditions; conduct site inspections at various locations to review work progress and requirements.

Remove and dispose of refuse by lifting and emptying into truck; clean up refuse using small equipment such as blowers and brooms; operate a small single axle refuse packer following a prescribed route; make frequent stops to lead refuse; empty vehicle at transfer stations as required.

Perform pre- and post-trip inspections by checking items such as fluid levels belts hoses and lights; report repairs needed and damage to supervisor and mechanic shop; check first aid and safety equipment; wash dumpster box; clean interior and exterior of vehicle as required; fill out daily equipment log.

Notify Fire or Police Department of incidents of vandalism to city property; submit reports of damage to bus shelters signposts and benches to appropriate section; complete daily time sheets productivity reports and equipment logs for the section; code and sign invoices.

Perform related duties where qualified.

INDEPENDENCE

Work is performed according to established routine and is reviewed through regular reports to supervisor.

Issues such operational changes and problems with staff scheduling are referred to supervisor with recommendations.

Work safely and operate equipment safely.

QUALIFICATIONS

Formal Education Training and Occupational Certification:

High school graduation.

Current and valid Class 5 B.C. Drivers Licence.

Experience:

2 years of related experience including some supervisory experience.

or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

OTHER:

May be requested to substitute in a more senior position.
