Job Summary

The Team :

The MOTI Claims & Litigation Team, part of the Procurement, Contract, and Risk Management Services (PCRMS) Branch, is dedicated to efficiently processing and recovering claims for and against the Ministry. This knowledgeable team comprises four adjusters, a data clerk, and a manager who collaborate with Ministry staff, other government ministries, police authorities, insurers, external contractors and the general public. The team maximizes financial recoveries through effective claims management. Their efforts promote a responsible and impactful public service.

The Role :

As the Claims Adjuster you'll support the MOTI Claims & Litigation Team by applying policies, procedures, and processes to investigate, verify, review, and resolve a full range of claims for and against the Ministry. Every day brings new challenges and interactions, as you'll collaborate with contractors and community members to resolve claims efficiently. Qualifications :

Education and Experience Requirements

At the Entry (Junior) AO 15 Level :

  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent (GED), or an equivalent combination of education and related experience may also be considered.
  • Minimum of 1 year Experience in file management and / or case management or similar.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience answering enquiries from internal partners and the general public both verbally and in writing.

At the Full Working (Senior) AO 18 Level :

  • Diploma or post-secondary education or training in business or public administration with courses in law, claims adjusting procedures including adjudication and settlement : OR, an equivalent amount of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the Entry (Junior) Level Officer role; OR, minimum of 2 years of experience in an equivalent role (for example : file management, case management, claims management positions including all areas of experience described for the Entry (Junior) Level Officer role.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience identifying options and resolving complex files.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience interacting with internal partners and the general public.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with the following :

  • Experience applying Ministry of Transportation claims practices and procedures.
  • Experience working with insurance policies and\or claims.
  • Experience with customer service and conflict resolution.
  • The Claims Adjuster is a growth position and is developmental in nature and scope. Claims Adjusters are expected to develop specific knowledge, skills and competencies in both areas of claims adjusting as they move from the Entry (Junior) Level (AO15) towards the Full Working (Senior) Level (AO18). Typically, successful candidates will be appointed at the Entry (Junior) Level and be assigned to less complex work, with smaller liability potential, in both of the claims areas. Over the course of the growth or developmental period, team members will acquire knowledge, skills and competencies in both areas of claims adjusting; and, at the Full Working (Senior) Level, will be expected to perform all accountabilities of the position, even those associated with more complex claims. The expected timeframe for the progression from the Entry (Junior) Level to the Full Working (Senior) Level is up to two years; depending on the learning capabilities of the incumbent. If a candidate has Senior Level experience starting at the AO18 level may be considered.

    Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work 2 or more days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.

    This is a temporary opportunity until April 11, 2025. This position may be extended or become permanent.
