SUMMARY :
Merit Services is seeking a skilled Marine Conservationist to join our client’s dynamic team in Saskatchewan. As a Marine Conservationist, you will utilize your deep dedication to the preservation of marine environments, your extensive scientific expertise, and your proficient advocacy abilities to foster sustainable behaviors and enhance public understanding regarding the significance of marine biodiversity.

RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Engage in scientific investigation and regularly observe the well-being and population levels of marine species and habitats.
- Come up with and execute plans and initiatives that safeguard at-risk marine ecosystems and species.
- Smartly promote the creation of marine protected areas and actively participate in their governance and surveillance.
- Engage in partnerships with various entities such as government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and community members to jointly create and execute preservation tactics.
- Engage in public outreach and educational initiatives to enhance understanding of marine conservation concerns and encourage the adoption of sustainable behaviors.
- Help with creating and enacting policies and regulations that aim to protect and preserve the marine environment.
- Engage in practical work, such as taking part in data collection, monitoring tasks, and sample collection in the field.
- Share your research findings and recommendations by making contributions to scientific publications, reports, and presentations.
- Keep yourself informed about the most recent progress in marine conservation science and optimal approaches.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Marine Biology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
- Must have shown great enthusiasm for protecting marine life and possess a deep knowledge of marine ecosystems and the diversity of species within them.
- Proficient in performing field research and gathering data within marine settings.
- A comprehensive understanding of conservation principles, practices, and regulations pertaining to marine ecosystems.
- Possess excellent analytical and research abilities, combined with the aptitude to interpret and communicate scientific data proficiently.
- The person possesses outstanding abilities in communication and connecting with people, being able to captivate and motivate people from various backgrounds.
- The capability to function effectively both as an individual and as part of a diverse team in various fields.
- Having excellent organizational and time management abilities in order to effectively meet project deadlines.
- Preference is given to candidates with experience in GIS and data analysis software.
- Having a scuba diving certification and practical experience in the field are valuable qualities.
