Position Summary :
The Montessori Teacher is responsible for creating and maintaining a prepared learning environment that supports the holistic development of children following Montessori philosophy and the Early Learning for Every Child Today (ELECT) framework. The educator provides individualized, hands-on learning experiences while promoting independence, curiosity, and respect for self, others, and the environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Curriculum & Classroom Environment
Prepare and maintain an organized, child-centered Montessori classroom environment with clearly defined learning areas (Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Math, Cultural, Art, Music & Movement, Science & Nature).
Plan and implement a balanced program that integrates Montessori materials with play-based learning experiences aligned with ELECT and AQI standards.
Rotate materials monthly to reflect children’s interests, cultural diversity, and seasonal changes.
Support individual and small-group lessons to meet each child’s developmental needs.
2. Child Observation & Documentation
Observe, record, and assess children’s development using Montessori and ELECT frameworks.
Maintain accurate daily logs, attendance, and progress reports.
Reflect on observations during team meetings to adjust program plans and goals.
3. Family & Community Engagement
Communicate regularly and respectfully with families regarding children’s progress and classroom events.
Support parent education on Montessori principles and developmental milestones.
Participate in open houses, parent–teacher meetings, and community events.
4. Health, Safety & Compliance
Ensure classroom practices comply with the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA) , Toronto AQI , and CWELCC quality standards.
Maintain a safe, clean, and inclusive learning environment.
Follow daily routines that include hygiene, meals, rest, and outdoor play.
Document incidents, accidents, and any concerns following centre policies.
5. Professionalism & Team Collaboration
Work collaboratively with co-educators, assistants, and administrators to support the program’s mission.
Attend staff meetings, workshops, and professional development opportunities.
Uphold confidentiality, professionalism, and respect for diversity at all times.
