Sr. Project Engineer - Controls Systems

Our Automation & Digitalization division seeks a Senior Engineer who specializes in the design, development, and implementation of control systems engineering for industrial facilities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

• Technically support control systems projects from feasibility through commissioning, helping ensure that project goals, timelines, and budgets are met. Design and develop control systems, including hardware and software components, to meet the specific requirements of a project. Develop and implement control algorithms and logic. Review/improvement of existing, and development of new process control narratives. Simulation and testing control systems to validate proper functionality and adherence to specifications. Identify and resolve any issues or malfunctions through systematic troubleshooting and debugging techniques. Integrate control systems with existing or new equipment, machinery or processes. Prepare technical documentation, including system specifications, design documents, user manuals, and maintenance procedures.
• Ability to analyze and optimize control loops to enhance process efficiency and stability.
• Stay updated with the latest advancements in control systems technology and implementing innovative solutions for continuous improvement.
• Mentor and coach junior engineers and technologists, helping them develop their skills and knowledge in control systems engineering.
• Ability to provide training to operations and maintenance teams on DCS operation and troubleshooting.
• Assist with the development of project opportunity proposals.
• Assist with the definition of project objectives, scope, and success criteria in collaboration with stakeholders, including identifying opportunities for additional automation and electrification scope within the project.
• Assist with the identification of project risks and issues, including support with developing contingency plans and mitigating strategies.
• Establish and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including clients, vendors, and internal teams, to ensure effective communication and collaboration throughout the project lifecycle.
• Ensure compliance with ANDRITZ Quality System.

When selecting candidates, we will be looking for the following:

• Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Engineering with a focus on automation and electrification technologies.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in industrial engineering; preferably in Pulp & Paper.
• Proven experience with a combination of design, configuration and programming of DCS systems such as ABB, Emerson, Foxboro, Honeywell etc.
• Knowledge of industrial control system networking and cybersecurity standards and practices.
• Registered as an EIT or , or AScT in British Columbia.
• Strong understanding of automation and electrification technologies, including knowledge of industry standards, best practices, and emerging trends.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve issues related to control system hardware, software and communications.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
• PLC and HMI configuration and programming an asset.
• Project management experience an asset.
• Legally entitled to work in Canada.
• Ability and willingness to travel to domestic and international sites.
