About Mount Milligan Mine
Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck‑shovel open‑pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant.
Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi‑Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region.
Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol‑free workplace and has adopted a zero‑tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.
About the Opportunity
Mount Milligan is seeking a
Senior Engineer, Mine
to play a key role in optimizing the Mine to Mill process through effective collaboration with Mine Geology, Mine Operations, Drill & Blast, Maintenance, and Mill Operations and Maintenance. This position is responsible for developing the Drill & Blast budget; supporting the creation of financial models, medium‑ to long‑term mine plans, and Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) construction schedules; contributing to annual budgeting processes; managing contracts and controlling costs; and ensuring alignment between short‑ and long‑range plans. This role also provides mentorship to junior engineers and technical staff within the Mine Technical Services department.
Key Responsibilities
Develop medium to long‑range mine plans and production schedules.
Provide guidance and oversight to ensure short‑range mine plans align with long‑range strategies.
Conduct short‑term options analysis to support improved equipment utilisation and cost optimisation.
Optimise drill‑and‑blast parameters to improve rock fragmentation and optimise unit costs; ensure effective D&B performance reporting and analysis. Conduct field inspections to verify drilling accuracy (QA / QC).
Develop and control D&B budgets, including cost forecasting and plan‑vs‑actual variance analysis.
Coordinate and execute industrial trials of explosives, blast systems, and drilling equipment, ensuring technical, safety, and economic compliance.
Collaborate with consultants and suppliers to improve the efficiency and quality of D&B operations.
Monitor and control consumption of drilling tools, consumables, and explosive materials, ensuring accurate cost tracking and reporting.
Work closely with Mine Operations and Mine Technical Services to develop and execute medium to long‑term TSF construction plans and schedules.
Support ongoing TSF optimisation, planning, and engineering activities.
Contract management and cost control.
Contribute to annual Drill & Blast budget development and support the creation of financial models.
Assist with cost forecasting, variance analysis, and long‑term strategic planning.
Prepare technical and economic justifications for CAPEX and OPEX, including equipment selection.
Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship to junior Engineers, Co‑op Students, and other technical personnel.
Foster a collaborative environment that supports professional development and continuous improvement.
Prepare engineering reports, technical documentation, and presentations as required.
Perform additional duties related to the role, as assigned.
About You
Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering or a closely related discipline.
Registered as a P.Eng. in British Columbia.
Valid class 5 driver’s licence.
6–8 years of mine engineering experience with demonstrated competency in :
Drill & Blast design
Open‑pit mine optimisation
Mine design
Mine planning & scheduling
Budgeting and cost analysis
Experience working in large open‑pit operations preferred.
Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with :
Pit optimisation and mine design software (MineSight, Deswik, Datamine or equivalent)
Mine planning & scheduling applications
Drill and Blast design software (MineSight, Short Plus)
Experience using Power BI and Power Query
Experience generating Power Automate workflows
Experience using VBA scripts to automate Excel‑based work processes
Spreadsheets, word processing, and presentation software
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices.
Strong communication skills, including presentation, written, verbal, and active listening.
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross‑functional environment.
Experience working in northern climates and culturally diverse environments is an asset.
Working Conditions
Camp‑based role working one of the following rotations (in order of preference) :
10‑hour days on a 4 day on / 3 day off rotation
12‑hour days on a 7 day on / 7 day off rotation
12‑hour days on a 14 day on / 14 day off rotation
Exposure to indoor / outdoor environments, heavy equipment, noise, and moving parts.
PPE always required.
Safety‑sensitive environment with zero‑tolerance drug and alcohol policy.
Bus transportation provided from regional locations.
