Job Description-
Title : Brick and Stone Mason
Location- Ontario
Required hours : 5,600 hours per year of Full time employment
Key Responsibilities-
Construction & Repair : Build and repair walls, chimneys, fireplaces, foundations, and other masonry structures using bricks, stones, concrete blocks, and other materials.
Blueprint Reading : Interpret blueprints, sketches, and technical drawings to determine project specifications, layout, and measurements for masonry work.
Mixing & Application : Prepare and mix mortar or other bonding materials according to specifications and apply them to set bricks, blocks, or stones securely in place.
Material Cutting & Shaping : Cut, shape, and arrange bricks, stones, and blocks to fit specific designs and ensure structural integrity.
Quality Control : Inspect completed masonry work for accuracy, durability, and finish. Ensure that the work aligns with project requirements, industry standards, and safety regulations.
Tool Use : Operate and maintain masonry tools and equipment, including hammers, chisels, trowels, levels, and saws, to perform precise cutting, shaping, and setting of materials.
Workplace Safety : Follow all safety protocols, including the proper handling of tools, materials, and protective gear. Maintain a safe and organized work environment.
Teamwork & Coordination : Work closely with other construction tradespeople, contractors, and supervisors to meet project deadlines and ensure a smooth workflow.
Maintenance of Work Area : Keep the work area clean, organized, and free from hazards, ensuring proper disposal of materials and waste.
Requirements-
Education : High school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Formal training or apprenticeship in masonry is a plus.
Experience : 2-5 years of experience as a brick and stone mason or in a similar masonry role, with proven experience in working with a variety of masonry materials.
Technical Skills : Strong knowledge of masonry techniques, tools, and materials, including the ability to read blueprints and use various hand and power tools.
Attention to Detail : High level of precision and craftsmanship, with an eye for detail in alignment, leveling, and finish work.
Physical Stamina : Ability to lift heavy materials, stand for long periods, and work in various weather conditions.
Problem-Solving : Strong problem-solving skills to address challenges and make adjustments during the construction process.
Safety Awareness : Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations in construction and masonry work.
Communication : Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with team members, contractors, and clients.
Adaptability : Willingness to learn new techniques and improve skills to stay current with industry trends.
