Organic farming

Salt Spring Apple Company is a family-run certified organic orchard of more than 3,500 apple trees. In addition to managing the orchard, we make organic cider and other value-added products using our apples. We sell all of these products at farmers markets as well as from our on-farm shop and lounge / tasting room.

We’re looking for an employee to work with us starting as soon as possible and continuing through March 31, 2026.

This is a partially-government-funded position, so is limited to unemployed or under-employed applicants aged 15 to 30 and particularly encourages applicants who are indigenous, living with a disability, racialized, recent newcomers to Canada, 2SLGBTQI+, living in a low-income household, members of an official language minority community or who left high school early. You must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada or status refugee with a social insurance number who can legally work in Canada.

ORCHARD and NURSERY ASSISTANT

• Involves assisting with our organic orchard and nursery, including planting trees, weeding, pruning, installing posts and other tasks
• Also involves cleaning and maintaining our facilities
• Must be able to do heavy physical work and be cheerfully willing to work outside in all weather, including rain and snow, through the winter
• Must be okay with working alone much of the time
• We don’t require directly-related experience, but do require a good attitude, hard work and willingness to learn
• Must be available to work between 20 and 35 hours per week
• This position pays $22 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay, for a total of $22.88 / hour.
• Our property is 100% non-smoking, inside and out.

We may have worker accommodation available for the period of employment. If you are the successful candidate and choose to live in this worker accommodation, its cost will be deducted from your salary on a bi-weekly basis.
