Position : Health and Safety Advisor

Location : Darthmouth, NS

Do you know AGF Rebar Inc .? WE are a leader in the supply and installation of reinforcing steel in Nova Scotia. We have worked on many high end industrial, commercial and residential projets across the province. We are currently looking for a Health & Safety advisor to join our team!

Reporting to the Health and Safety Director, the Health and Safety Advisor is responsible for planning, organizing and coordinating the health and safety activities for our shop as well as our construction sites. The advisor acts as an ambassador by promoting health and safety within and overseeing the development of healthy and safety policies, programs and behaviours. This position requires travel within the Halifax, NS region , and occasional travel to our facility in Caraquet, NB (3-4 times / year).

In this Health and Safety Advisor position in Dartmouth, NS, you will have the following responsibilities :

  • Develop and Implement H&S Programs : Assist in creating and executing health and safety policies, procedures, prevention programs, and action plans.
  • Workplace Inspections and Compliance : Conduct regular workplace inspections to ensure safety rules are followed, equipment is used properly, and safety devices are in good working order.
  • Accident Investigations and Risk Assessments : Investigate accidents and hazardous situations, identify trends, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Training and Education : Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees and managers, ensuring compliance with regulations and company standards.
  • Support Return-to-Work Plans : Collaborate with managers to develop accommodations and return-to-work plans for employees on occupational disability leave.
  • Emergency Measures and Risk Management : Coordinate emergency preparedness plans and participate in risk assessments to promote safe working practices.
  • Committee Leadership and Reporting : Lead health and safety committee meetings, track H&S indicators, and provide guidance to supervisors and team leaders on safety improvements.
  • Other Miscellaneous Responsibilities
  • General Skills

  • Professional diploma in health and safety;
  • 4-5 years of experience in the construction or manufacturing industry;
  • Understanding of current Occupational Health and Safety Legislation and Regulations;
  • Ability to travel regularly to construction sites in the region and occasionally to Caraquet, NB (3-4 times / year);
  • Bilingual (English & French) Is a strong asset but not essential.
