The City of Medicine Hat is seeking a driven and dependable individual to join our Parks and Recreation team as a Technician Assistant, anticipated to run from April through October. This role provides essential technical, research, and data collection support to the Parks Operations and Asset Planning teams, helping ensure our parks, trails, and recreational assets are well managed, maintained, and supported by accurate, timely information.

As an integral support for the department, the Technician Assistant plays a key role in collecting and managing data that informs operational decisions, asset planning, and long-term service delivery. This position works closely with Parks and Recreation Technicians, operations leaders, and internal partners to support programs, research initiatives, and asset management practices across the department.

Your key responsibilities

• Provide technical support, monitoring, and data collection related to Parks and Recreation operations and maintenance programs.
• Support Parks Operations by assisting with research projects, reviewing and approving access to park spaces, and supporting programs such as Integrated Pest Management and tree stewardship.
• Support Asset Planning by collecting condition data for a variety of assets, including parks facilities and amenities, and updating asset inventories.
• Perform regular field work and on-site asset inspections, with the role involving significant time working outdoors, particularly during peak season (approximately 50% or more).
• Collect, analyze, and manage data using specialized equipment, GIS / GPS technology, and field data collection applications.
• Program, download, and manage data from various devices and systems, ensuring accuracy and integrity of information.
• Prepare reports, summaries, and presentations related to service levels, operational practices, benchmarking, and industry standards for parks, trails, and recreational water assets.
• Utilize technology such as Excel, ArcGIS, cloud-based data collection services, and asset management or work order systems to maintain and update Parks and Recreation asset information.
• Ensure information is communicated clearly, accurately, and in a timely manner, following established protocols and procedures.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designate.
