Electrical Engineer/ Designer
Our client is seeking Intermediate and Senior Electrical Engineers and Designers to undertake advanced technical design projects focused on comprehensive building electrical system upgrades.
These projects encompass various areas such as power distribution, indoor and outdoor lighting, controls, fire alarms, and voice / data communication systems.
The role requires strong Project Management skills, as incumbents will be involved in all project stages including responding to Requests for Proposals (RFPs), systems analyses, detailed design, procurement services, and construction oversight.
Collaboration with owners, architects, and multidisciplinary team members is key to proposing and delivering effective, value-adding solutions.
Leadership roles within the team, including mentoring and leading project development and delivery, may also be part of the responsibilities.
Specific Responsibilities
Building Systems Design
- Conduct conceptual designs and detailed cost estimates for building electrical system upgrades, including developing business cases and preparing client reports.
- Perform detailed design of building electrical systems, preparing technical specifications and documentation, and utilizing engineering theories and calculations to arrive at solutions.
- Prepare tender documentation for equipment and installation procurement, in coordination with owners.
- Ensure construction and implementation adhere to agreed project timelines, conducting field reviews, reviewing documents during construction, and providing instructions and solutions to ensure projects meet design intent and owner's requirements.
Project Management
- Manage projects and phases, including resource planning, budgeting, change management, scope management, and schedule and contingency planning and resolution.
- Provide guidance and supervision to more junior members of the project team.
Marketing and Business Development
- Prepare technical responses to Requests for Proposal (RFPs).
- Build and maintain effective relationships with key clients and manage key accounts.
- Promote the client's services to existing and potential clients through cross-services marketing.
This is a full-time salaried position in a hybrid work environment. Candidates must be able to travel locally with occasional trips to other communities and provinces across Canada.
Qualifications and Experience
The following qualifications, experience, and competencies are considered major assets :
- Equivalent of at least 5 years of prior experience in designing building electrical systems.
- Professional Engineering ( certification or eligibility to apply for
- Considerable exposure to various types of facilities, with a preference for strong exposure to commercial- and institutional-type projects.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD drafting software (Revit modeling experience is also an asset).
- Project management skills and experience.
- Applied knowledge of energy efficiency, sustainability, and climate change considerations in designs.
