The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environmental agenda. The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD) is located in Montreal, Canada and is administered by UNEP. This post is within the Secretariat of the CBD, in the Office of the Executive Secretary (OES), reporting to the Head of the Communication and Awareness Unit.
Responsibilities
- Content Development and Management – coordinate and implement day‑to‑day social media content creation, scheduling and distribution across official platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, Bluesky, YouTube) in alignment with strategy.
- Campaigns and Public Outreach – plan digital campaigns and outreach events (e.g., International Day for Biological Diversity), collaborating with internal teams and external partners.
- Digital Adaptation and Editing – draft, review and edit digital content from executive speeches, adapting for platforms and ensuring consistency.
- Monitoring and Strategy Development – track emerging digital trends, analyze data and provide actionable recommendations to increase visibility and engagement.
- Coordination and Advisory Role – act as focal point for social media, coordinate with thematic leads, prepare trend analyses and advise on content optimization.
- Website Management – oversee website content updates, collaborate with technical teams to maintain the Convention’s website.
- Administrative and Logistical Support – prepare correspondence, manage event registration, maintain mailing lists and process documentation.
- Data and Knowledge Management – assist with data collection, analysis, and visualization; prepare reports and knowledge-sharing materials.
- Multimedia and Publication Management – upload approved multimedia and written content to YouTube and via the Secretariat’s Content Management System.
- Other Duties – contribute to internal reporting and cross‑cutting communication initiatives; perform additional tasks as required.
Qualifications
Education – High school diploma or equivalent required; training in Microsoft Office required; additional training in communication, public relations or related fields desirable.Experience – At least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in social media management, digital marketing or related field (or 5 years with a university degree). Experience in communication, marketing or public relations agencies desirable. Experience in environmental communication and advocacy desirable. Experience supporting biodiversity‑related initiatives desirable. One year or more of data analytics experience desirable.Deadline 12 / 11
