This is an opportunity for our client company, Bevo Farms Ltd is the largest supplier of propagated plants in North America, providing greenhouses, field farms, nurseries, and wholesalers across the continent with healthy, vigorous, pest-and-disease-free plants. Bevo operates three sites in the lower mainland of British Columbia and two facilities in the province of Alberta.
Role Overview
We are looking for a General Manager for one of our portfolio companies, a leading company in plant propagation, based in Edmonton, AB. The General Manager (GM) is responsible for overseeing the overall operations, performance, and profitability of the organization. This leadership role involves strategic planning, operational excellence, team management, and ensuring customer satisfaction while driving sustainable growth.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement business strategies aligned with organizational goals.
- Analyze market trends and competitor activities to identify growth opportunities.
- Set performance targets and oversee the development of annual budgets and business plans.
Operations Management
Optimize processes to increase productivity, quality, and cost-efficiency.Oversee supply chain, inventory, procurement, and logistics (as applicable).Lead, motivate, and manage department heads and staff.Build a high-performance team culture, focusing on training, development, and retention.Conduct performance evaluations and support professional growth of team members.Monitor financial performance and ensure profitability targets are met.Review financial reports, budgets, and forecasts with the finance team.Identify and mitigate financial risks.Maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and handle escalated issues.Represent the company at external events, meetings, and industry forums.Compliance & Sustainability
Ensure compliance with all provincial, federal, and agricultural regulations (e.g., WorkSafeBC, CFIA).Champion sustainable and environmentally responsible practices in line with company values.Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, or related field (MBA preferred).5+ years of progressive leadership experience, including 3+ years in a senior management role with greenhouse operations, agriculture, or agri-business (preferred)Proven experience managing large-scale operations with seasonal fluctuations and labour needs.Nice to have
Manufacturing industry-specific experience is a strong advantage.Experience working in the farming industry15-20% bonusPosition Type
