00 - $114,735.00 + current provincial recruitment and retention allowance ASSIGNMENT : .50 (FTE) Continuing Specialist Position CARRIER LANGUAGE AND CULTURE TEACHER (GRADE 8 / 9) SPECIFIC ASSIGNMENT TO BE DETERMINED BY THE DIRECTOR OF INDIGENOUS EDUCATION AND SCHOOL PRINCIPAL Nechako Lakes School District gratefully acknowledges that we live, work, and play on the unceded, ancestral territories of fourteen First Nations representing the Dakelh, Nedut’en and Wet’suwet’en peoples.

We are working diligently towards creating equity for our learners through conscious acts of Reconciliation. The School District Nechako Lakes is situated on the traditional unceded territories of fourteen First Nations encompassing the Dakelh, Nedut’en and Wet’suwet’en peoples.

The school district encompasses five municipalities, the Districts of Fort St James and Vanderhoof and the Villages of Fraser Lake, Burns Lake and Granisle.

This large area served by our school district has a population of just under 40,000 residents in the beautiful north central BC.

We serve 3,000 students in our standard schools and approximately 900 FTE at EBUS Academy, one of the largest online schools in British Columbia.

Qualifications Bachelor of Education (Middle or Secondary). A valid BC teaching certificate and current membership in The Ministry of Education and Childcare.

Specific training and experience teaching Dakelh, Nedut’en, Wet’suwet’en Language and Culture is a necessity. Certified Indigenous Language Teacher, fluent in Dakelh, Nedut’en, Wet’suwet’en language and aware of the local differences in dialects.

Demonstrates a detailed knowledge and understanding of Dakelh, Nedut’en, Wet’suwet’en history, culture, traditions and communities.

Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain a positive classroom learning environment that engages students in active learning experiences.

Experience in differentiating instruction to create success in learning for each student. Experience in integrating appropriate technologies into instructional practices in order to improve learning outcomes for students.

Ability to work as a member of a district team to create curricular competencies and content in Dakelh, Nedut’en, and Wet’suwet’en language.

The TRC Calls to Action. Integrating Indigenous culture and Ways of Knowing into curriculum and learning activities. The district believes that teacher interest in providing extracurricular activities contributes significantly to our students’ positive school experience.
