Dive into an exciting leadership role with our team!

We’re looking for an energetic and enthusiastic Aquatic Programmer to help shape the future of our aquatic programs. In this role, you’ll create, deliver, and evaluate engaging swim experiences that keep our community learning, growing, and having fun in the water.

You’ll support our amazing instructors to ensure every lesson meets Lifesaving Society Swim Program standards, and you’ll guide our aquatic volunteers so they feel confident, supported, and clear on their responsibilities.

This is also a hands-on position—so you’ll jump in as a lifeguard or swim instructor when needed, keeping your skills sharp and staying connected to the action on the pool deck.

You’ll also work closely with the Aquatics Coordinator on the behind-the-scenes magic that keeps our facility running smoothly, including basic mechanical operations and chemical balancing.

Position Responsibilities :

Swim Instruction

  • Create organized and easy‑to‑use administrative packages for instructors.
  • Review and verify all lesson paperwork and documentation.
  • Support, supervise, and work alongside instructors to ensure high‑quality lesson delivery.
  • Evaluate instructor performance and provide constructive coaching.
  • Prepare class lists and adjust lesson schedules as needed to support smooth operations.
  • Teach swim lessons when required.
  • Train, mentor, and inspire instructors to deliver top‑tier programming.
  • Collaborate with the Children’s Services Programmer to coordinate Camp Curious swim lesson programming.
  • Lifeguarding

  • Support and guide lifeguards to ensure exceptional safety and service.
  • Maintain a safe aquatic environment by identifying and responding to hazards quickly.
  • Assist in planning and delivering in‑service trainings.
  • Help assess lifeguard rotation patterns and guard positions.
  • Lifeguard on deck when required.
  • Educate patrons on aquatic rules and policies in a positive, helpful way.
  • Provide first aid as required.
  • Assist lifeguards, instructors, and shift supervisors during challenging public interactions.
  • Mechanical Operations

  • Conduct daily water testing and monitor facility gauges and water chemistry.
  • Add chemicals as needed to ensure safe and balanced water.
  • Perform routine mechanical procedures to support smooth facility operations.
  • Complete chemical barrel changes safely and efficiently.
  • Submit weekly water samples as required.
  • Volunteer Program

  • Lead the intake and onboarding of new aquatic volunteers.
  • Train volunteers and prepare them for their roles.
  • Supervise, guide, and support volunteers throughout their placement.
  • Schedule volunteer shifts and track volunteer hours.
  • Complete Volunteer Appreciation documentation and submissions.
  • Administration

  • Ensure Shift Supervisors complete all required checklists consistently and accurately.
  • Confirm inspections are completed and uploaded to Core Point.
  • Keep the Aquatic Coordinator informed of daily happenings and facility needs.
  • Assist with scheduling for all aquatic staff.
  • Track, record, and compile swim lesson statistics.
  • Implement and uphold the Pool Closure Policy as needed.
  • Education & Experience & Additional Requirements :

  • Minimum Grade 12 plus 4+ years of experience working in an aquatic environment.
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • A degree, diploma, or certification in Recreation, Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a related field is an asset.
  • National Lifeguard – Pool certification (required).
  • National Lifeguard Instructor (asset).
  • Intermediate First Aid with CPR‑C and AED certification (required).
  • First Aid Instructor certification (asset).
  • Pool Operator Level 1 certification (required).
  • Pool Operator Level 2 certification (asset).
  • Lifesaving Swim Instructor (required).
  • Lifesaving Instructor (required).
  • Valid Driver’s License with a current Driver’s Abstract.
  • RCMP Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Child Intervention Record Check.
  • Confined Space Training (asset).
  • The position works a 40-hour work week, with the possibility of on-call rotation for after-hours and weekend emergency call-outs.

    The starting hourly wage is $32.28 / hour to $36.20 / hour.
