Under the direct supervision of a Physician the Physician Assistant (PA) will provide general medical care within the Emergency Department and to inpatients with a wide variety of medical conditions. Description : Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive direct patient care, within the PA's skill matrix, as a central member of the team.
- Perform comprehensive assessment, make differential diagnoses, order appropriate testing, and plan the clinical management of patients.
- Provide leadership and actively participate in program development and evaluation.
- Participate in inter-disciplinary collaboration in the provision of patient care.
- Provide direct clinical care to patients and consult with and refer to other health care professionals as indicated.
- Recommend and explain appropriate diagnostic tests and treatment.
- Instruct and educate patients; address follow-up care concerns with patients or family members.
- Fully document all aspects of patient care and assist with completion of all required documentation.
- Review clinical care in light of evidence-based literature.
- Provide and document clinical instructions as required.
- Support discharge planning process as needed.
- Engage with community physicians, other health care providers, and community organizations to facilitate ongoing comprehensive patient care management.
- Ensure continuing education, training and development to meet CAPA and patient care requirements.
- Work collaboratively with all health care providers, patients and families to ensure continuity of care.
- Encourage and ensure good working relationships with all members of the team.
- In exceptional circumstances, provide additional services under the direction and supervision of a Physician, within the clinical competence of the PA.
- Work within AHS Policies and Procedures.

Required Qualifications : This posting is open to Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents of Canada. Candidates must submit a Curriculum Vitae and evidence of PA training at a recognized Canadian institution. The applicant should have or be eligible for CPSA registration. Incomplete applications will not be considered. The successful applicant will be responsible for registering and maintaining professional licensure with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).Additional Required Qualifications : Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada (e.g. Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and individuals with open work permits).
