About The Position
As a geologist at ALS Geoanalytics, you will use your knowledge and experience to provide specialist geoscience and machine learning-assisted consulting services to our mineral exploration, mining, and government clients. Leveraging expertise in mapping, sampling, core logging, and a keen interest in mineral deposit formation, the position focusses on interpretation and integration of geoscience data to support exploration targeting and process improvement at all stage of the mining life cycle. The holder of this position is responsible for performing assigned geoscience tasks independently while ensuring high quality of work, on time delivery, and effective collaboration with internal project teams. With internal mentorship, the holder of the position will increase their knowledge and capabilities in data integration, data analysis, exploration geochemistry, mineral exploration targeting, and the practical application of machine learning in geoscience.
Specific Responsibilities
- Consulting : Provide specialist consulting services to exploration and mining companies. Perform rigorous interpretations and treatments of geoscience data to generate high-quality products and information for use in targeting and modelling. Perform site visits and provide technical guidance to clients. Occasional oversight of consulting projects.
- Client Engagement : Effectively communicate and describe technical aspects to clients in a professional and knowledgeable manner. Participate in completion and delivery of technical presentations and reports to clients.
- Business Development : Provide occasional support on business development activities such as lead prospecting, lead follow-up, project scoping, consulting proposals, and attendance at conferences.
- Collaboration : Active and effective participation in project team meetings and technical collaborations. Travel as required to ALS offices for training and project collaboration.
- Professional Development : Participate in professional development programmes including internal training, external workshops, and self-study. Train and mentor junior team members and contractors as needed.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration : provide occasional technical support to other departments such as ALS Geoanalytics - software development, ALS Geochemistry, and ALS Metallurgy.
- Health and Safety : Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Demonstrated skill in performing interpretations and analysis of geoscience data that produce high-quality products.Practical experience in field-based mineral exploration campaigns including soil sampling, core logging, and / or geological mapping.Strong aptitude in either exploration geochemistry, spectral geology, structural geology, 3D modelling, or remote sensing is an asset.Established capability to articulate complex concepts to diverse audiences, delivering clear and concise reports and presentations.Knowledge of data integration and targeting methods for a variety of geological environments and mineralization styles.Intermediate level user of GIS software such as QGIS and 3D software such as LeapFrog.Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English required; English-French preferred)Required Qualifications
A minimum of 3 years of full-time experience with an exploration, mining, or geoscience consulting company.Post secondary degree in geology, geological sciences, or geological engineering (Bachelor degree required; Masters degree preferred).Registered Professional Geoscientist or Engineer in relevant jurisdiction within Canada (preferred). If not registered, then must hold Geologist- or Engineer- in training designation and have obtained the required professional experience to become registered professional.Valid full Provincial driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.Physical Demands
Manual dexterity to perform intricate and / or repetitive tasks;Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required;Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;Ability to conduct physically demanding geological field work in remote areasOur Benefits Include
An estimated annual salary of $80,000 - $90,000 CAD at the time of posting.
