We are seeking a highly skilled and safety-focused Heavy Equipment Shop Technician – Lead Hand to support and guide our Burlington Earth Moving and Material Handling Workshop team. This is a hands-on role responsible for executing and coordinating high-quality repairs, diagnostics, rebuilds, PDIs, and preventative maintenance on a wide range of heavy equipment. Reporting to the Workshop Service Supervisor, the Lead Hand works closely with technicians to ensure all tasks are completed safely, accurately, and on schedule. The ideal candidate is a technical expert with a strong focus on safety, production efficiency, and workmanship excellence, who takes an active role in mentoring, troubleshooting, and driving shop performance.
Responsibilities
- Lead a Safety-First Culture : Enforce and model a proactive safety mindset; ensure team compliance with all safety policies and resolve concerns promptly.
- Mentor and Support Technicians : Provide hands-on coaching, training, and performance feedback to maintain high standards in safety, quality, and workmanship.
- Oversee Technical Work : Guide and review diagnostics and repairs to ensure work is completed efficiently, safely, and to spec.
- Monitor Shop Performance : Track KPIs and communicate with leadership on progress, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure On-Time Delivery : Coordinate work orders to meet customer specs and timelines; escalate concerns when necessary.
- Optimize Workflow : Prioritize jobs, allocate resources effectively, and adjust staffing to meet production targets.
- Drive Continuous Improvement : Collaborate with management and shop teams to identify and implement operational enhancements.
- Maintain Shop Standards : Promote clean, organized workspaces and lead daily toolbox talks to align team on safety and goals.
- Perform Additional Duties as Assigned : Support overall shop success through flexible, hands-on technical support.
Competencies
Minimum of 10+ years of relevant Heavy Equipment Technician experienceworking on comparable equipment is required, ideally within a dealership or OEM environment.Direct experience with Liebherr equipment will be considered a strong asset. experience is requiredPrevious leadership experience as a Lead Hand, Foreman, or similar capacity in a heavy equipment shop environment is a strong asset, particularly with a hands-on, collaborative approach.421A / Red Seal Heavy Equipment License requiredDemonstrated leadership / mentor experience is strongly preferredCustomer centric and performance drivenExpert knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical components, diagnostics and troubleshooting techniquesExperienced with component exchange, repair and warranty related activitiesStrong ability to read and understand schematics and technical drawingsHigh attention to detail and an analytical mindset for managing quality standards and workshop performanceDedicated team player, able to work with ease and diplomacy with othersStrong communication and motivational skillsOur Offer
