Hays Manufacturing has partnered with a client to recruit a Product Development Specialist specializing in cannabinoids.

Your New Role :

As a Product Development Specialist in the cannabinoid category, you will be an essential member of their global team. Your responsibilities will include conceiving and developing innovative products, managing the upscale and technical transfer into production, and overseeing the entire process from inception to commercial launch.

We are looking for a visionary and forward-thinking individual to lead product development efforts in Canada, leverage external networks, transform ideas into tangible products, and secure patents for new concepts.

Your Responsibilities :

In this role, you will lead the formulation and process development of cannabinoid products from ideation to commercialization. You will enhance the knowledge and competitiveness of API / AI and final formulations, focusing on quality, efficiency, and sensory properties. Your tasks will include ensuring optimal masking and taste optimization for products, preparing prototypes, and overseeing the final launch of solid dosage forms such as powders, gums, tablets, and chewables.

Additionally, you will develop and execute product development protocols and reports, ensuring thorough documentation of compatibility, stability, release / dissolution, processability, homogeneity, and upscale / technical transfer. You will establish best practices in the product development process and collaborate with departments including procurement, project management, production, quality, and regulatory teams.

Your responsibilities will also include delivering compelling presentations and proposals to management and collaborators, showcasing capabilities and innovative solutions, identifying and assessing opportunities to patent novel ideas and concepts, working closely with legal experts to secure intellectual property, promoting knowledge building and sharing within the team, and traveling for team meetings, collaborative projects, exhibitions, seminars, and external cooperation.

Your Skills :

  • 5+ years of experience working with Cannabinoid products
  • Professional Chemist or Biotechnician
  • 3-5 years of experience in Product Development and R&D, implementing GMP and GPP
  • Experience in the cannabinoid, pharmaceutical, and / or nutraceutical industry
  • Knowledge of the Cannabis Act and Health Canada regulations
  • Proficiency in analysis, QA / QC, and regulatory affairs
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Production Practices (GPP)
