Baird AE is seeking a PLANNING TECHNICIAN to join our team FULL TIME with a minimum of 2 years of experience to support our clients’ project in our LEAMINGTON, ON LOCATION.

The Planning Technician will provide crucial support to the Principal Planner and project teams in drafting concept plans, site plans, and other required documentation for development projects. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical understanding of planning processes, a working knowledge of legislation and guidelines, and proficiency in AutoCAD and other visualization tools.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Planning Technician Program (required).
  • Minimum 2 years of technical planning work experience (required).
  • Membership in the Canadian Association of Certified Planning Technicians (CACPT) - associate membership (required), designation preferred.

Technical Skills :

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, 3D Visualizations, and Presentation Graphics.
  • Proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and related software.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in preparing documentation.
  • Familiarity with Planning and Development processes, Building Legislation, Municipal and Provincial Guidelines, and Standards.
  • Thorough understanding of Planning Legislation, Hierarchy of Planning Documents, Ontario’s Planning Act, and Provincial Policy Statement (PPS).
  • Experience with Zoning By-laws, Official Plan policies, and other planning policy documents.
  • Critical thinking and decision-making skills to resolve planning and development issues.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills to assess project feasibility and compliance with regulations.
  • Must have ability to communicate to all levels of management and with clients.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Highly motivated, strong interpersonal skills, enabling positive working relationships with diverse teams with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize multiple projects, and manage time effectively.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to respond to changing project needs and timelines.
  • Responsibilities and Duties

    The Planning Technician is responsible for but not limited to the following :

  • Draft concept plans, site plans, draft plan of subdivisions, and other project-related documentation.
  • Support project teams with report writing and documentation.
  • Conduct technical assessments and data analysis for land use and development projects.
  • Prepare and submit various planning and development applications for site plan approvals, zoning bylaw amendments, and minor variances.
  • Liaise with clients, municipalities, and agencies for project coordination.
  • Assist the Principal Planner in Lead and facilitating public consultation processes, including community meetings.
  • Assist in coordinating multi-disciplinary project teams to deliver planning documents and reports.
  • Review complex planning and development applications and provide detailed feedback.
  • Provide development support to other disciplines as required.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
