The Engineering Department is a Transport Canada Design Approval Organization that supports many internal and external modification and repair design requests by creating the appropriate data as necessary.

J OB OVERVIEW

As a growing company, KF Aerospace is looking for an Aerospace Engineer Co-op student - Structures.

The qualified individual will assist with structural design, repair design and manufacturing design on a wide variety of aircraft type in compliance with the appropriate regulations. The successful candidate will prepare structural drawings and analysis and will liaise with appropriate departments and organizations for resolution of issues pertaining to design data interpretation and design deviations.

Typical day of a Projects – Structures team Co-op student :

The role of the co-op student will be to contribute to the Project team in the development of modifications on Part 23 or Part 25 airplanes, including but not limited to interior reconfigurations, avionics installations, or structural modifications.

They will be mentored in design, drafting, standards and specifications, regulations, and the complexities of aircraft structures and systems. The co-op student will develop modification installation, assembly and detail drawings in AutoCAD and SolidWorks, propose design solutions, and develop the final design package and installation instructions.

They will also support the development of the certification package, which may include structural analyses (static and fatigue analysis), weight and balance reports, test plans, flammability assessments, certification plans, etc. The co-op student will also be involved in configuration control and document distribution for the modifications being accomplished at our facility.

By the end of the work term the co-op student in the Project team should have had exposure to all aspects of aircraft modifications, been involved in multiple projects on different aircraft types, gained experience developing various types of drawings, reports and analyses, and be capable of designing a minor modification with minimal supervision.

Typical day of a Repairs – Structures team Co-op student :

The role of the co-op student will be to assist the Repair Engineering team to support the production team completing maintenance on airplanes at our facility. Primarily the co-op student will assist the Engineering team to provide repairs for damages beyond the limits described in the Structural Repair Manuals (SRM).

The co-op student will learn the basic design requirements for structural repairs and the guidelines for durable metallic repairs. The co-op student will assist the team to gather information related to damages and help design and propose repair solutions for these damages to external and internal approval sources.

By the end of the work term the co-op student should be able to assess and design a metallic structural repair for damages beyond SRM limits and be able to provide support to the maintenance team for routine issues.

REQUIREMENTS

• Working towards a University Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering
• Ability to commit to 16-month term (May 2026-August 2027)
• Due to security clearance requirements, must be Canadian citizen or PR status

Our ideal candidate should have a positive attitude and strong work ethic, and is the type of individual who uses his or her highly developed organizational skills and attention to detail when taking the initiative on projects. They are able to work effectively both alone, or as part of a team. Candidates also need to possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and have basic computer skills. CAD experience is considered an asset.

SALARY

The salary for this position is $62,167.73 (KF wage band level 7).
