Job Profile
Under supervision of the Public Education Coordinator, the Public Education Intern will be responsible for the delivery of Fire Prevention and Public Education programming for the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service at various community events and locations throughout the City of Winnipeg.
As the Public Education Intern, you will :
- Deliver the current Fire Safety House Program that includes specific education programming as per the established lesson plans.
- Drive the tow vehicle and safety house trailer to specific community events.
- Utilize Public Education tools including “Sparky” the mascot at community events, as per established procedures and guidelines.
- Assist Public Education Officers in the delivery of other programs such as fire extinguisher training, lectures and other programs as requested.
- Assist with information booths including the distribution of appropriate educational materials at community events.
- Maintain a work schedule for the Fire Safety House trailer staff by coordinating a list of events, activity requests, pre-activity requirements, and time allotments.
- Document events and other activities for statistics.
- Prepare written reports on events and other activities for data entry.
- Perform other related duties consistent with the classification, as required.
Your education and qualifications include :
Currently enrolled in a post-secondary education program (diploma or degree) or a recent graduate of a post-secondary program is an asset.Experience working with the public or in a customer service environment.Experience delivering presentations or programming to the public is preferred.Experience and comfort working with children is an asset.Knowledge of community groups and organizations.Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively deliver information to the public in small and large group settings.Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.Ability to provide a high level of service that respects the diversity of the public and the workplace.Ability to exercise sound judgement when interacting with the public.Ability to work independently; initiating and completing work under minimal direction and supervision.Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast paced, dynamic environment.Fluency in both official languages (French and English) or a second language is preferred.
